Good morning
My current EDC consist of a Garmin instinct, Olight baton 3, Pro-Tech SBR, Zebra F301, Travax ascent.
I'm considering swapping the Garmin for my Seiko SKX007 but I'm concerned that the baton 3 with its magnetic base will magnetize parts of the automatic movement causing the watch to fail.
I am also in the HVAC/R field and deal electromagnetism daily.
Does anyone have any experience using a magnetic flashlight along side wearing and SKX007/automatic watches or any experience in HVAC/R and automatic watches?
thank you for your time

I didn't kill my seiko auto with a magnet, but I did with repeated impacts (I'm a muppet and smacked it into the side of a plastic canoe... a lot. The same activity cracked the glass in a timex. Well, didn't kill, but got it running up to five minutes fast per day.
I also carry a Fenix E30R for work which has a similar magnetic charging point, and it gets gunked with grinder dust often enough that I have to clean it whenever I need to charge it. I'd say it would depend on if you carry your light weak side, or not, for me it would be well away from my watch almost all the time, but if I carried it specifically weak side, my watch would be right next to it a lot more often.
Not solid advice either way, but hope that gives an indication.

Thanks for your input. I think I'll play it safe and just keep the SKX for my off days when I carry a small tail switch (non magnetic) light. It'll stay looking sharp that way too.

I don't think you need to worry about the watch with the flashlight magnet. As a diver the SKX does have some magnetic resistance. With the magnetic fields you encounter at work, that may be a different story depending on strength.

I'd recommend wearing it to see. Worst case, if it gets magnetized you can get a demagnetizer off Amazon pretty reasonably.

Great advice!

I'll throw my experience on here. I've been wearing a Turtle for about a year now. And being the curious sort that I am, I track its accuracy. I also have been using Olight flashlights regularly for the past 4 months (actually longer, but I don't think I can say that they have been paired with the Turtle for longer than that). I don't worry about the magnetic base (to be honest, I never even thought about it until I read this post). The accuracy of the watch hasn't strayed over that period. So, with respect to Olights, I myself wouldn't (and don't) worry about it. I have no experience with the magnetic fields you might be subjected to at work. But like Crazy Canuck Crazy Canuck said, if it starts straying, you can get a demagnetizer for reasonable money.

An SKX007 is a tough watch. I've worn one while splitting wood. I wouldn't recommend doing that regularly, but this particular one I had cracked open and regulated myself, so I was confident if it went wacky, I could probably hack it. It never deviated.

I have NOT cracked open my Turtle... and probably won't. It is a different movement, and I haven't done the research into working on it.
