Hello, I picked up a Skyline Flipper, excellent knife, being a lefty I took off the clip & carry it in my back pocket. Question is, mine is made in Aug 08, what steel is it? Also according to the catalog it says the blade is stonewashed, but mine looks like it's fine glassbeaded. Any info would help, otherwise I find this an excellent knife & sharp out of the box. Thanks, Gary

Steel is 13C26. Kershaw made a decision to make it a BB finish.

I need to pick one up sometime, but other knives are filling that "buy" gap quite quickly... :(

GaryC, I'm a lefty too and have been wondering about a Skyline. How do you like it as LH?

It's no different than most linerlocks. Opens GREAT with the flipper of course, (though not with the thumbstud - right-hand only).

A better EDC for left-handed people, IMO, is the R.A.M.
also 3-way clip mounting (LH tip-up), but the location of the lock button is perfect for your LH middle finger (way easier than with the RH thumb ).

Plus it's just so much cooler, the action is incomparable to EVERY other knife I've owned or held, assisted or not, and it is a superb design in terms of ergonomics, locking system, and blade shape.

thanks for the LH Skyline observations. I didn't realize that it wasn't an ambi thumbstud. They pop up for sale in interesting variations lately and I'd been tempted.

Yeah, the RH-only Skyline clip was a minus, and is ultimately why I sold off my Leek years ago.

I've been interested in the Zing (3-way clip, and there is what appears to be a coincidentally LH review on YouTube), and thanks for the recommendation on the R.A.M. I'll have to check it out at the big Oregon show next month.

tradja, I've been carrying it since I got, being a lefty, no problem opening & closing it at all.I don't use the the thumb studs. With a little practice it's easy to open it & close it with one hand, with or without the clip. I like it clipless plus it's light & thin in the pocket.I'm a lockback & axis guy, but this one is a must have in my opinion.Excellent knife. Gary

Thanks GaryC. I had a few minutes after work yesterday so I handled the Skyline at WW alongside the Zing. I sure liked the flipper action and on the Zing more than the Skyline, but as you observed in your OP, it is pretty sharp out of the box.
