Skyline or Leek?

Hey guys this is my first time posting cause I'm pretty new here but I need some help.

I own a partially serrated Kershaw Blur but I accidentally left it back in storage in another state so I won't be able to get it back at least until the end of summer. That being said, I'm looking for a new EDC for the summer. I don't want anything above $50 because I don't need anything particularly fancy, and so far the Skyline and Leek have caught my attention. Any recommendations on either one given that I already have the Blur?

I like the Skyline. It's bigger, lighter, has a more practical blade shape and due to it not being assisted it is "friendly". Also, if you already have a SpeedSafe maybe something else will be refreshing.

So: Skyline, IMO.

Welcome to the forums.

They're both fantastic. It really depends on what you want to use it for. The Skyline is more light/medium duty where as the leek is pretty much a light duty knife. The leek has a more acute tip which is better for delicate precise work. The skyline has more belly which is needed for harder tasks.

Personally I'm not much of a non-assist flipper fan. So my preference is the leek.

I personally like the leek better but if your used to the Blur, the skyline may be a better bet for you. I carried a blur for a long time. When I switched to a leek I always felt like it was gonna break it.

Both a good knives, I own the Skyline and love it though. A leek is something I will eventually pick up most likely though. I agree with what Moxy said on the description of the knives though. But I will add the flipper on the Skyline works pretty good and doesn't need speedsafe, but the thumbstuds are more of a cosmetic on that knife and don't expect to be able to use them to open the knife. I will say it fits in your hand very securely and with the finger grove and flipper combo with that secure grip your hand is going no where once you open it up and hold it, that was my first thought when I opened it the very first time.

Personally I'm not a fan of assisted openers. Had a leek, gave it to my cousin. I like manual flippers, and though I don't own one, I hear good things about the skyline.

Exactly what 903lew said. makes perfect sense

I have owned both of those knives. I don't know what your normal daily usage pattern is, but between those two I would choose the Skyline as being more appropriate for a wider range of tasks.

The Leek is a great light use knife with a very pointy tip and not much belly. The Skyline's blade is more robust and better suited for harder use. If you are used to the very sturdy Blur, then the Skyline would be a better replacement.

I collect the Leeks, but have never even carried one!! Unless you want only a letter opener, go with the Skyline or another Blur.

I own both. 1 skyline and 4 leeks. I vote for the leek simply because it's slimmer. It disappears in a pocket. But I don't hard use my knives very often.

Just an fyi, I recently got my first 2 blurs, and having had (still have) 8 leeks, I didn't like the blurs as well at all. First was the absence of a flipper tab was annoying to me on an assisted opening knife, and I personally didn't find the blade to be that much more useable at all. I have used my leeks for a lot up to and including field dressing a whitetail, but it is no good for skinning or more heavy duty tasks I will say. The simple clean framelock construction of the basic stainless handled leek is just awesome to me, and can be had well below your budget.

The leek is a liner lock, unless something has changed since I bought one two years ago.

There's frame lock models.

I own both, actually 4 Leeks and 1 Skyline which should tell you what my preference is. I like everything about the Skyline except for how it flips, if you don't get the technique right you will end up with a half open knife. Someone coming from an assisted knife will probably find the Skyline annoying. I would suggest sticking to the Leek or maybe it's larger cousin the Shallot (which I haven't owned).

I have both and both are good knives. I really like my Skyline Forum knife with the S30V blade.

That said, I like the Skylines well enough to collect them. In regards to simioh's post about the flipping ability of the Skyline, I would just add that the difficulty flipping some of them can be easily improved by adjusting the pivot screw. All of mine (14) flip nicely now but I admit to having to adjust that screw a bit to get them to my liking.

But either one you choose will be a good EDC. Best of luck on your decision. :)

Mine was black aluminum handled with black blade. Looking on the website, I see they make both. Maybe the frame lock is a newer design?
As far as I know, the standard Leek and the standard DLC Leek have always had frame locks and a steel scale on the speedsafe side. But hey, anything is possible. Maybe you got one of the first runs or something

I would say go for the Skyline. I've had both the Leek and Skyline. I was always afraid I'd break the tip off the Leek, so I sold it. I still have 2 Skylines tho
