Skyline: Problems when moving clip

I got a Kershaw Skyline a while back, but haven't used it hardly at all due to a pretty serious problem. When the clip is in the factory installed "tip down" position, the knife works great. Solid lockup, smooth opening, perfect. But my preferred carry position is "tip up". When changing the clip to tip up, the blade has TONS of play in all directions. I tried to remedy this by tightening the pivot screw, but in order to take out all the play it must be tightened down completely where the blade can hardly even move. I'm assuming this is something I'm going to have to send it in to Kershaw to fix?

I'm on my second one and I carry this model clip up too(gave the first to my nephew)! I haven't had any trouble with either one. I would at least call them on it and perhaps let them check it out.

What is the action like with no clip on the knife at all?

Speaking generally, moving the clip from one end to the other can affect the blade action. However, in my experience the problem has always been that things are fine in tip up but going to tip down and putting the clip at the pivot end causes the pivot to bind and the action gets stiff. I just encountered that a little while ago on a Spyderco passaround knife. I've never had a knife be fine with tip down and then go super loose moving to tip up.

Well when I change it to tip up, the liner lock moves all the way over and the blade still has a lot of front/back play. Tightening it all the way down almost fixes it but it's too tight to open or close the blade with it that tight.

Just moved the clip again and it's not quite as bad, but it's like the clip helps keep the liner tight and rigid. When the clip is not there the thumbstud doesn't make as good of contact on that side which creates blade play. I can put pressure on the blade and hear the thumbstud contact the liner.

I would contact Kershaw then and see what they think. The knife's not going to do you much good if your preferred carry position introduces those kinds of problems.

So, curious person that I am, I had to move the clip on my Skyline. No problem at all, blade has no movement with either clip placement. I wonder if when the clip was taken off the pivot end, something that was bound up, came loose causing the play? Interesting either way, I'd let Kershaw handle it! Then you can post another pro-Kershaw CS over on TW's thread :D

I'm thinking about it, but this knife was a gift and I haven't really ever carried it. I know this is partially due to the clip placement problem, but I've just got so many other knives that I would prefer to carry. Just wondering if there was a simple solution without having to send it in.

Try putting the screws in one at a time without the clip in the tip down position. Screw them in a little a time and try to check the effect they have.
Also, does the play issue occur when the clip and screws are not attached at all or only when in the tip up position?
