Skyline question

Everybody talking about the Kershaw Skyline, and everyone is recommending them (myself included.) At Knifecenter it says "locking liner", so I've always just assumed it was a liner lock with two G-10 scales, a la Benchmade Vex. But I read something somewhere recently saying that it had only one scale, a la Boker CLB, and was a framelock. Which is it? I'm pretty sure I'm going to get one, either way, but I like to know what I'm ordering.

It has 2 g-10 scales, but only one steel liner.

So it's a framelock with two scales (cause that sounds like the best of bost worlds, good looks of the linerlock but stability of the framelock)

Jim,
I definately wouldn't call it a "framelock," as it is "liner-locking" (the scale/frame is not involved in the locking process at all), and your grip does nothing to reinforce the lock (as it does with a true framelock). The single, steel liner is also much thinner (approximately 0.40) than any framelock I've ever seen. It is, however, a very solid locking liner. It's one of the most stable liner-locks I've ever seen! If you don't mind a really good quality liner-lock, get it. I'm sure you will love it. If, however, you're looking for a framelock (a la boker Subcom/Trance), you will not be pleased, as this is not a framelock.

jim, I don't think its classified as a frame lock. I could be wrong tho.

Take a look at the Groove...that's a frame lock with scales.

Great suggestion!

Or also, if you don't mind a framelock without overlays, take a look at the Junkyard dog (the JYD I, not the JYD II), as it is a grrrrrrreat framelock!

I don't have any problem with liner-locks. My only Kershaw is a liner lock, and it's held up well. It looks like a very strurdy liner lock.

Thanks for the clarifications.

Oh, and by the way, call me Preston. I beggining to like this subforum.

0.40 would be a helluva liner lock.
I just measured mine at 0.05.......;)

Whoops!:D Sorry about that. I guess I need to keep better track of those pesky decimals. Good catch.

P.S. SVincent, Are you sure it's 0.050, and not 0.040? I don't have calipers with me, but it is noticeably thinner than my Lahar's liner-lock, which Tim Galyean stated was 0.050, but the same exact thickness as my BladeTech Pro-Hunter's liner-lock, which Mikey Vellekamp (BladeTech Rep) stated was 0.040. Thanks.

P.P.S. I have a "first production run" Skyline, so maybe Kershaw beefed up the liner-lock on subsequent runs?

Pretty sure it's 0.050...... ;)

I would highly doubt that there's a difference in the 1st production runs, but
Thomas would have to confirm this.

you know come to think of it. im not sure any knife has really been significantly altered from FPR to standard production. Thomas. you know of any?

Thanks, SVincent! I definitely trust your digital calipers more than just using my eye. I guess a difference of 0.010 is pretty hard to see. Thanks again, Sir.:)

Thanks also, SladeGT40. I, too, wonder about FPRs and whether any changes are made. I know the product flyer lists the Skyline's blade as being "stonewashed," but my FPR Skyline has a bead-blast. Do you know if the regualr production run has a bead-blast finish as well? Thanks.

Admittedly, I would rather have preferred the stonewash, though on the only "stonewashed" knife from Kershaw I have (s30V Leek) doesn't look quite as "refined" as say, the stonewash on my HAK or Sebenza.
