Forgive me if this has been done before; I thought this would be an interesting discussion.

I recently purchased my first Skyline and I gotta say it lived up to the hype... especially on pocket-ability and sharpness out of the box. Upon looking at my Skyline and a couple of my Buck Vantages (both of mine are the 420HC non-Avid models), I find them to be similar (not copies of each, just very comparable).

Anyhow, I was just wandering and I am tempted to post a similar question on the Buck forum as well, and compare the different replies... Keep in mind I want this to remain civil... I know we are loyal to our brands. We are all on the same side; we love knives:o.

I am curious of a comparison between the Skyline and the Buck Vantage Avid (this is in Sandvic 13C26N, not 420HC), I will give the specs and I look forward to a compare and contrast. I think both are terrific knives. I really like my Skyline and I really like my 420HC Vantages. I want to add, I think Kershaw and Buck are both great great companies with a reputation of standing behind their products.

I apologize if I messed up on any of the specs:confused:.

-Buck (my name being Buck has always made me partial to Buck brand knives:))

It is a comparison I never really thought about before. I have the large Vantage pro and of course a Skyline, Two of my favorite knives. I would have to think about it a bit before I could compare them head to head in a post. So I will just leave it at you can't go wrong with ether.

I have both and I think they're both great knives, but the Skyline gets used more due to it carying better. The Avid feels bulky in my pocket, especially if I'm wearing shorts.

i dont have a skyline. but i have a buck vantage select in small, a buck vantage large in avid , another buck vantage large in avid with the non gloss, and a buck vantage large pro. very good knives. i'd like to try out their vantage force series.

i own a pretty good amount of bucks. i just started buying some kershaws. i own a small junkyard dog and i ordered a needs work from the kershaw guy. i really like the blade style on the junkyard dog and the frame lock and nice and thin and doesnt take up a lot of space and flips open super fast, i liked the profile of the blade on the needs work as well.

i think with these two brands people can't go wrong.

Both are fine knives for the money however for practical EDC purposes I'd give a slight nod to the skyline due to it's slimmer more stream lined profile but the dymondwood scales on the Vantage Avid do look mighty fine IMO.

I like them both, I'd give the Vantage a slight edge though. IMO, it's a bit more solid, but as whetrock said, the Skyline is slimmer.

You can't go wrong with either...so, I suggest anyone debating the two...get them both! :D

I have both and agree with those above. the Buck is a solid knife and can be had in great steel at a value price and the Kershaw is a value and thin easy carry. If I was doing a major cutting chore, the Buck would be my choice.
