Hi everyone,
Im looking into getting into a kershaw or a zt because i was kinda disappointed with my tenacious :barf:. I only want to get 1 knife, but I cant make a decision between the Skyline or the ZT350. Obviously the steel in alot different and the zt's blade is alot beefier. I think i may pick up both eventually but right now I can only choose 1. Which would you pick? Also what are some things you like about each knife?

They are completely different knives, so its going to be more up to you than to us to point you in the right direction. It depends on what you are after. The Skyline is a favorite around here because its thin, lightweight, deploys easily and is not spendy. I have 3 of them, and they get their share of pocket time. Its a fun knife with a lot of utility. I have the ZT0301 and not the 0350, so I can't comment directly, but the 0350 is certainly a beefier and more spendy knife. Its an apples and oranges thing, so its going to be up to you to determine which direction you want to go. For EDC I would go with the Skyline because of its ease of carry, but thats just me.

Skyline.

that is true. The look of the skyline is growing on me. I like the red scales too, are there other colors? and where is a good place to get a good deal, if you dont mind me asking. I usually just use amazon but I was wondering if you guys know a place where you get good prices. thanks,

depends on what you like in a knife. skyline is really lightweight while the ZT is on the heavier side. if i had to pick i'd pick the 0350.

youre comparing a $35 knife to a $100+ dollar knife.
skyline is way lighter and thinner. good enough for most peoples edc. id say go with that first since its a 1/3 of the price and a great deal.

0350 all the way for me. I don't really like the skyline. Although the skyline is WAY cheaper.

You can check WalMart, Cabelas/Bass Pro, and depending where you live, Academy (apparently only in the south) if you would like to buy from a store, otherwise the internet has boundless options!

Sent you a VM.

I prefer having a beefy knife on me so I would say the ZT350. They're really different knives in completely different price ranges. Would you rather have a beefer carry, or a light weight carry? Speed assist or not? S30v steel or 14C28N?

There's no comparison at all..Apples and oranges

Skyline makes a nice lightweight EDC for an excellent price. (non assisted opening)

The 0350 is made for heavy duty use. It's quite a bit heavier and the blade is a lot thicker than the Skyline. (assisted opening)

So...to make it simple, get both :D

In order to provide the most relevant answers, it might be helpful for us to understand what disappointed you about the Tenacious.

Sorry guys my internets been acting up. What is so good about the zt? is it worth the extra money? My problem wasnt really with the tenacious in general but with spyderco. when i bought the knife the blade was terribly off center. I tried to fix it by turning the pivot screw like I do when my m16's blade isnt centered but I stripped the screw, even after i heated it to try and get the loctite out. Then i tried to change it to tip up and i stripped those too. I used the right size bits and everything but it just didnt work right. So then i emailed spyderco and they told me i had to pay for the shipping there, back, and maybe 20 dollars if it voided the warranty. I only payed 35 dollars for the knife so I wasnt about to pay another 30 for it. I just took a dremel to the screw, trying to make it a slot for a flathead and it still didnt work so Im looking to replace it.

The ZT is worth the extra money. The 0350 has a S30V blade steel, the Skyline uses Sandvik 14C28N blade steel, both are good, but the S30V is quite a bit better. Both knives have the awesome Kershaw warranty. I'd get the ZT, the 0350 is an awesome knife

Hi everyone,
Im looking into getting into a kershaw or a zt because i was kinda disappointed with my tenacious ...

What didn't you like? The Tenacious is kinda in between the two knives you've mentioned in size and weight. Similar build quality. The lock is heavier duty on the ZT than the Tenacious, but the Tenacious is stouter than the Skyline.

I don't love the blade steel and Chinese manufacture of the Tenacious, but as a knife, I'm not sure that either of the two you mentioned blow it build quality or value.

Edit: Just read your Tenacious post. That seems more on you than on Spyderco. Same thing could/would happen with Kershaw. Their loc-tite is stiff.

I've owned both knives. The Skyline was little too small and too light weight for me. The Zt350 is a nice beefy knife, but the handle was also smaller than I like, too short, not too thin. It's kind of like holding a brick.
Like everybody else said, they are both really good knives, but they are totally different. The ZT is heavy duty, with a thick re curved blade and assisted opening flipper. While the skyline is very thin and light weight with a non assisted flipper.

I say buy both to try them out and then sell the one you don't want to keep.
You can find good prices from Dave aka Kershawguy at Kershawguy.com

+1 for Mr. Dave and KershawGuy.com!

He doesn't have the Skyline on his website though, last I checked.
Does have the ZT 0350, but maybe he can get you a Skyline if you ask?

Knockout. It's basically a 0350-sized skyline with A/O, 4-position tapped for the lowrider clip, and the new sub-frame lock.
