Skyline won't flip.

I feel kind of dumb because I just posted the other day about how much I liked the inexpensine Kershaw Skyline. Well since then it has lost it's ability to flip. Before it would snap right out, now it seems to want to stop about halfway open. I've taken it apart and all there is are two washers. I've tried loosening the pivot screw to the point of blade wobble and it still doesn't want to flip. And those of you who have a Skyline know that the thumb studs are not a great option as far as deployment of the blade. Is there a remedy to this problem or do I just junk it and spend more to get a functioning knife?

Did you lube it with anything?

You may have the pivot too loose. It needs to be loose enough not to slow the blade down, but too loose, and it can bind slightly and not deploy.

It might be worth taking apart again... just to make sure everything is clean, lubed and back together properly, and maybe take a closer look for unusual wear. Also make sure that when you put it back together everything is lined up, and that you don't bind the blade when tightening the screws.

If all else fails, send it to Kershaw... they'll take care of it.

My Skyline has functioned perfectly over time. It only stopped flipping nicely when I tightened it too much. Of course that's an easy fix.

The thumb stud on the Skyline isn't actually a thumb stud. It's more there for aesthetics and stopping the blade once flipped. You read this a lot in topics about the Skyline ;)

My advice is just to oil it again. I think you should follow cbwx34's steps.

Maybe the detent is worn and weak, so it's not allowing you to build enough pressure behind the flipper before the blade pops out.

My Skyline would slow down after a while, but never to the point where it only opens half way. What I usually do is take it apart, polish the washers with Flitz, then add a couple of drops of mineral oil. It always flies open afterward.

Take it apart, do a full cleaning, oil it up. It should be good after that.
I've done that with my JYD many, many times. As often as I flip it it needs (or at least my OCD dictates) a good lubing is needed at least once a month. Preventative measures like that may seem troublesome now but it will pay off in the long run.
