Hey guys,

I hate to wander into the Kershaw forums and ask this, but is the Skyline an AO knife? My brother is a huge fan of AOs and his birthday is coming up, and I think this would be the perfect knife to start him off.

Thanks!

Nope, it is not AO. However, the skyline utilizes the Flipper and is quite fast on deployment. Thumbs Up! If you are looking for a good AO i would suggest the Leek or a Blur! All the best

No it is not. It is a sweet flipper though. Not a sweet flipper for the price, a sweet flipper period. With that said, what you are looking for is the Oso Sweet. Similar sub $30 price range w/ assisted open. You should have some luck at Wally World and stores of similar ilk.

Thanks for the responses you guys! I'll take a look a closer look at the Oso Sweet.. I always liked how it looked.

I bought my younger brother a mini cyclone for christmas, and he loves it.. I think my family is slowly turning towards Kershaw. No complaints there.

Thanks again.

You'll really be missing out if let the fact that the Skyline isn't and AO keep you from buying one. I can open mine just as fast as my AO and the blade takes wicked sharp edge.

Yeah, once you get used to the flipper the Skyline can be "deployed" extremely fast. I agree on the blade too - mine came very sharp, but a little time on the Gatco and then the Sharpmaker and WOW! :D

I can deploy manuals faster than I can deploy AO's (when pulling from the pocket). It takes some practice, and it depends on how the AO is deployed (thumb studs tend to be less accessible than flippers, and some AOs launch blades faster than others) but you can do it. Really, lockbacks are the enemy of fast deployment, but most other locks, stud locks, liner/framelocks, axis locks and so on, those all have really good actions.

Undoubtedly.. I planned on buying a Skyline for myself regardless because I like flippers (I bought a CRKT M-16 last year, and despite the materials used, the knife is a joy to open), but I'm trying to figure out what to get my older brother for his birthday.. he isn't too familiar with knives and was really impressed with my younger brother's Mini Cyclone. So, I thought I'd try to get him an AO.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I might make a purchase today, actually.
