I recently was a lucky winner in Skystorm's BK2 Sheath Kit giveaway thread. Well, I got the kit in the mail today:

More to follow in the coming weeks as I progress through the build.

Me too. I'm hoping someone does a great job so I can hire them and go on vacation for about 6 months.

Just wanted to update this thread..... with the news that there is nothing yet to update. Been busy the past few weeks, and I'm presently out of town until mid-July. This sheath build is high on my list of priorities when I return.

In the meantime, for those looking for sheath-assembly-goodness, check out crimsonfalcon07's build thread. I hope mine turns out half as good as his looks!

Holy crap. I can't believe it's been more than half a year since I got this kit. Good news is I'm FINALLY getting started on it. One question for the vets in the house.... looking for a place to get barge cement and Fiebings dye, had no luck at local craft stores or box hardware stores. Anyone know if any national chains carry this stuff, or will I have to order it online?

Yeah, no Tandy locations in Maine. Thinking I'm gonna have to order this online.

OK, I'm looking at some Fiebings leather dye, trying to decide between Cordovan and Chocolate. Gonna pick up some Barge cement as well. Have some denatured alcohol on hand.

What should I use to finish the leather after it is dyed? Should I oil it somehow?

Neatsfoot oil to treat the leather. Some say use it before dying others say after, I have no opinion really. Dye dries slower with neatsfoot on it so I tend to treat after the parts are dyed. It does soften the leather some, FYI

I use clear shoe polish to finish and shine them up for pictures. I've heard of some guys using snow seal. I have some Red Wing Boot branded waterproofing paste that I may try on my next one.

Resolene is popular too, I have no experience with it yet. I bought a quart of Neatsfoot so when it runs out I my try it

Obenaufs LP for the finish coats and a few times throughout the year to keep'er in shape. Lots of contact cements at the box stores that will probably work.

Thanks for the advice guys. This morning I ordered the Barge cement as well as Fiebings Oxblood (shifted gears slightly for color). Also, last night I picked up some stripper so I'm gonna try stripping one of my other blades as a trial, either the BK15 or the BK4 first. I'll strip the BK2 as well, as part of this new sheath package.

Good luck JWL. Looking forward to seeing how this comes out.

Stripped both the BK4 and the BK15 tonight. I'm still in the coarse (220 grit) sanding stage now. I'll post pics once I get the grinding marks removed and buffed down a bit with the 1200 grit.
