My apologies if this had been done before.
I just got my RC4 and was wondering if the screws are stainless steel,
or nickle plated? Or hard chromed?

Also is it recommended / necessary to take off the scales if used in wet
environments to check if corrosion is developing, or does the powder coat
negate any necessary preventive maintenance of the handle?

Thanks!

I can't give you any definitive answer on the screws but I have taken the scales off and noted that the screws are ground to length on the threaded end and dispite frequent use in and around water, no rust has formed on those ground areas. That leads me to believe that they are indeed stainless.

As for the removal of the scales, I would say that for the most part, you shouldn't have to worry about rust under the scales due to the coating.

Carbon steel will rust. If you are going to be using it in wet environments, I would recommend wiping it down periodically with a dry lube like Tuf-Cloth. Taking it apart and going further with maintenance will be by your choice. If you feel it needs it then by all means.
