Yeah yeah, sure there are plenty of sleeper knives out in the world. Ones that perform great, look even better and are just underrated. But what about knives in your collection that you simply write off and forget about? For instance, an extra thrown into a trade or a knife you got as a gift that you put in your safe and forget about, but then months or even years later you rediscover and enjoy a newfound appreciation for the blade. I myself have had this happen just recently, a small JK model I had gotten in trade. Never really thought much of it til I noticed one day that O1 patinas gorgeously, and now I've carried it for about two weeks straight. What's your "undercover sleeper"?

For me it has to be my Piranha P1, I love it but never really carry it anymore. I think Piranha as an entire company is a bit of a sleeper. They make great knives with good fit and finish, good materials, made in USA, and all for very competitive prices . Their packaging was nicely done as well.

I couldn't agree more about the Piranha line of knives. I think they are well made and a good deal for the money. I never hear bad things about them and never read about mechanical failures. They are fairly light weight, fire hard and fast with s good build quality. They are a quality product with good customer service. I've had five different ones over the years.

But they are a sleeper in the knife world. Because of this the resale value is a bit low in my opinion.

Here is my mini predator and I also have a mini bodygaurd.

Just today I picked up my A.G. Russell Boxcar Jack for the first time in a long time. I really like it and they seem to be pretty uncommon. I think I'll start carrying it again.

I was steered away from Piranha a couple years ago - don't really remember the reason that was given...but I trusted the source.
Anyway - back to the thread topic.

I guess my sleepers would be a Kershaw Vapor II and ZT 0560.
The Vapor II isn't anything all that special, really; it just feels right in my hand. I carried it for a few years, despite having "better" and more expensive knives. Finally put it away, and pretty much forgot about it for about 10 yrs...until I was rummaging through a box of my old knives. There were a few that I took out and played with; but it was the Vapor II that went into my pocket, and later into my pack (where it still resides, and gets used)
The 0560 is one that I didn't appreciate all that much when I first got it. The size didn't bother me; but the lock was stiff, and actually hurt my thumb if I opened/closed it more than a couple times. I also found that if I didn't have it clipped, the blade would sometimes partially open in my pocket (I had a habit of either carrying it loose in a front pocket, or keeping it in my jacket pocket). For obvious reasons, I disliked that tendency. I discovered the 0200, and never looked back. Recently, I've been carrying the 0560 sporadically, and it's got a fairly regular spot in my pack. (Yeah, the Vapor II is there, too...and sometimes a fixed blade. I don't see a problem with that. Heck, I've got at least 2 flashlights in there, as well)

I got a Kershaw "military boot knife" a loooooong time ago when I was just first developing an interest in knives. Since then my tastes have changed and my budget has majorly increased...but still every once in a while I dig out that boot knife and kind of fall in love again. There's something about the aesthetics that I really love.

Aww, young knife love (*tear*).

Funny, I have had the exact same experience with that knife. I think I'll dig it out again. Thanks :D
