Sleeping Bag Question

Sierra Designs used to have a line of bags with Flex technology that first came out back around 1999 I think. The elastic design of these bags allowed you to sleep in just about any position comfortably. Do any of you guys know if they still sell bags with the flex technology. Are there any other brands of bags that you know of that are using this type of flexible elastic construction.

Thanks,

Montbell is making some very good bags with the flex design. I may have this wrong but I think they licensed it to SD. They sell both down and synthetic bags.

Big Agnes sells a nice and roomy bag that relies on your sleeping pad for insulation. Makes them relatively light for the temp rating and girth. They currently have some 20 degree synthetic bags on closeout on their website. I've spoken with them in the past and they are really nice and helpful. Their synthetic bags are Polarguard (I forget which version) and about as compressible as synthetics go. The down bags are obviously very compressible.

im partial to just killing a moose and sleeping inside its carcass :D who needs "flex design" when you can snuggle up next to a spleen!:p

Wiggy's bags rule. They're washable, avd very nice. I think you can find them on wiggy's.com:)

They are just as light, they have several within the 2lb range. Check them out, very high quality and always winning Backpacker gear awards.

I found a Big Agnes Encampment for $92 free shipping. I already have a Thermarest Prolite 4 so I like the idea of just being able to slide my pad in it. This seems like a great deal. It is synthetic like I want, not too heavy, rated at 15 degrees F, and still seems to be able to compress relatively small. I think i'm leaning towards Big Agnes.

Those of you that own Big Agnes bags, any negatives?

I'm pretty sure Big Agnes is American made also. I came close to pulling the trigger on some Wiggy's bags about a year ago. I had a team of students preparing for some adventure training. We were going to need about 20 bags and Wiggy was going to hook us up for a very good price. Unfortunately we didn't get the grant that we thought was coming our way and thus couldn't make the purchase. People either love or hate Wiggy, but he was always awesome to work with from my point of view. I'd send him an e-mail and I would have a reply from him the same day. Not many companies give you that kind of customer service.

My vote is for Wiggy's!!! They are awesome bags! He gives our troops a price break (way to go Wiggy!!!). For you large guys who want extra room he will even custom build your bag for you. Also, as mentioned before they are washable. Available in many temperature ranges also! I even like the stuff sack that came with mine.

Wiggy's Camper One would be the choice for me if I went with Wiggy. The Camper One has a similar temp rating as the Big Agnes Encampment. The Camper One would also be a big enough bag for me to move around in. Unfortunately, the Camper One costs $80 more than the Encampment, it is about a pound heavier than the Encampment, and it won't pack as small.

Big Agnes Encampment has been ordered. I hope I made the right choice!

Big Agnes is an American company based in Steamboat Springs, CO but the bags are imported. Wiggy's are made in the U.S. but I'd recommend further research on them (him). I've had several. They tend to be heavy for the rating.

I think you'll like the Encampment.
