Here's one I just finished. I used a piece of horse drawn buggy axle for the head and a small pick ax handle to make the haft out of. The buggy axle is pretty low carbon but it did harden up some in a water quench. The head has 5" of cutting edge measured around the radius. From cutting edge to end of hammer pole is 6 1/2". Its got a 15" hickory haft and weighs 1 3/4 of a pound.

Ray,
As usual your work is outstanding. Looks like it would feel great in hand . I always like that you mention what items you make your pieces out of. Great Work !!!!!!

I'll be picking up some 1 X 1 5/8" O-1 at the OKCA Show next weekend. My plan is to make a full size version of this ax. I just hope I can get the O-1 to move by hand.
