what is a sleeve dagger? i saw it on some of the archieve posts... i was wondering what they were... also, are they illegal to carry?

i always thought dagger was a mythological name used for a knife. shows how much i hear... haha:jerkit:

sleeve daggers and lapel daggers got their start from the OSS behind the front lines covert operatives in world war two. The sleeve dagger is a longer version of the lapel or thumb dagger, these knives were often used with a laynard that served as a flexible handle and also anchored the blade to the hand for a thrust. Fred Perrin bases alot of his blades on this type of concealed fighting knife. These daggers were not always double edged. For a great web site where you can see different examples and read more about this try Don Rearic's homepage. look at covert knives. Illegal, yes ofcourse completely and without question illegal.

The legality of any knife is a matter of local definition.

Some areas of the US are more restrictive than others. Even within a given state, some cities may further restrict types or sizes of blade. Of course the internet brings us together from different parts of the world, for even more difference in legalities.

Complicating the issue is the lack of a clear definition of many terms used within the laws themselves.

Daggers or dirks are generally understood to be double-edged knives, and are often illegal. Autos (switchblades) and gravity knives are also often illegal. So are balisongs. But not everywhere.

More often, knives designed or carried as weapons are banned, which may lead to some subjectivity in deciding whether the knife you may be carrying is legal.

The laws were not written to make it easier to carry a knife.
