Since these are both new steels to me can anyone explain the advantages / disadvantages of one over the other when it comes to comparing Sleipner to Niolox? Or.......are they both very close to being the same? I'm considering a purchase and can't decide which way to go.

Try the Interactive Knife Steel Composition Chart and you can look up both Niolox from Lohmann in Germany and Sleipner from Uddeholm in Sweden.

LionSteel uses a lot of Sleipner, Elmax, Niolox and D2 now for high end blades.

I think LionSteel uses the following sources for their steels:

  • ELMAX from Uddeholm in Sweden
  • Sleipner from Uddeholm in Sweden
  • Niolox from Lohmann in Germany
  • D2 from Lohmann in Germany
