Sleipner vs M4 Do these even compare?

I keep reading how wonderful M4 is. It is tough and holds an edge like crazy (so I have read). I have never owned a knife in M4, but I am waiting for one to arrive. :D

I have 2 blades in Sleipner. Both are Lionsteel. These are the hardest knives I have ever tried to sharpen! It takes forever to get my TM4 back to arm shaving sharp on my Sharpmaker. My M7 is still running with the razor sharp factory edge!
How do these two steels compare?
Is the M4 going to be even harder to sharpen?
Why do you like M4 or Sleipner?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on the heat treat of the M4 knife and the edge geometry. For me, a thinner edge equates to easier maintenance keeping the edge sharp
Let us know when you have to sharpen it.

With the right tools M4 is not that hard to sharpen. The problem with a Sharpmaker is that people want to reprofile edges with it and that can take a lot of work. For significant sharpening or reprofiling you need some diamond stones. I have a cheap set of DMT diamond stones and reprofiling M4 and even S110V is not all that hard.

Oh, I understand. I did the Sharpie trick with my TM1 and it was dead on with my SM. It just took a lot longer than any of my other blades.

I can't comment on M4, but the Lionsteel Sleipner I had came with a super impressive factory edge! It was the only knife so sharp from the factory that I could dry shave my FACE with it, which I attributed to both the grind and the steel!

Not sure how much you've practiced sharpening... I have extensive Sharpmaker experience, and would honestly put my SM skill up against any other sharpening job. While it is designed to be very user-friendly, there is a learning curve to get to a point where you can effectively sharpen more difficult & super steels on it. I've added Spyderco brand diamond and ultra fine rods, and also other brand stone rods and leather straps that I can use with it and I haven't found a knife that I can't sharpen very well with it. YMMV

Oh, and I love the sharpie method for reprofiling! :D

Which knife of lionsteel is m4? Isnt the tm4 made of m390?

M4 and Sleipner shouldn't be all that much different to sharpen if edge thickness is similar. If the M4 is harder, and it should be, then it'll be just a tad harder to sharpen given the same tools.
