Sliced another pair of jeans

Cut a small hole in my BEST pair of 31x33 Levi's 550's a while back when I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing with an A. G. Russell featherlite One-Hand.

Was just heading off to Wal-Mart (trying to beat the Holiday crowds) and clipped my "new" Duncan Whiplash inside my right-front pocket (where I normally carry my folders).

Damned thing came open (very light detent, plus it's got a #$!#$ thumbstud on the outside) and sliced a hole through the outside of my jeans.

Why in the HELL do makers insist on mixing pocket clips and dual thumbstuds? I HATE that! I know I've said before that I would NOT buy another knife with dual studs, but I got this one in trade.

This tears it. Never again! I'm going to see if Brad will fix (get rid of) this stud for me. Otherwise this knife is GONE!

Mike

Edit - WalMart is closed Xmas.

Dual thumbstuds are the devil. I have a Timberline large Worden that is a great knife except the lefty side of the thumbstud catches on my pocket everytime I draw it. I have to draw with a 45 degree counter-clockwise twist (or wear loose pants) to draw it cleanly. They should just get rid of all the left handers ;)

Tip up, I guess? I don't understand how the dual thumblugs would effect tip down/blade against the seam. I'll only buy knives with dual lugs now, and just finished switching my CRKs to dual as well.

Hey Mike,

I recently added a pair of jeans to the slice club. I attempted to see if a Spyderco Gunting would open kineticly on my thigh. Well, the new pair of Polo's have a kinda worn look to them. My fault for being a dumb@@%. "Don't try this at home kiddies."

Hey Mike,
Know what you mean--I've got a closet full of dress shirts with holes on the right hand side, thanks to the IWB carry of my CRKT Ti Mirage

I haven't sliced-up any of MY Levis YET, but the top of my Sifu has wore a pretty good hole in a pair of my favorite jeans (near the top of the pocket that my Sifu is carried in).:(.

I sliced a pair of jeans about a month ago, but it wasn't the knives fault. I was servicing a CNC router and I got some hydraulic oil on my Buck 112 handle. I attempted to wipe the handle off with the blade open, which, in hind-site, was kinda stupid, and I stabbed a hole into my jeans. I was lucky to not stab my thigh:eek: . Live and learn, I guess...

Us southpaws are equally screwed. I live for dual thumbstuds and a reversible clip, but most of the lower-end stuff (which I'm limited to these days) have dual studs but only one set of holes for the clip! Argh!

If it wasn't for Kit Carson (I think) demonstrating how to use a righty folder in the left pocket, I'd be double-screwed. EVERY knife should have a Spydie hole.

Zero

P.S. My folder-du-jour is the CRKT Ryan 7 with the thumbstud removed. It does wonders aesthetically and functionally. The thumbstuds were the size of...well, a thumb. Huge hole!

About 4 months ago, I purchased a Kershaw Boa, which I do like very much. However, I ended up taking the clip off and having Gary Graley make me a leather sheath. Why? The liners and "blade trigger" are very sharp and I wore a hole in two pairs of brand new Dockers. Really irratated me!!

Had the exact same problem.

I haven't sliced the pockets yet but with my new JW Smith folder with dual thumbstuds I can feel it opening...both when removing the knife and putting it back in!

The clip side thumbstud catches on the pocket edge and starts to cam-action open the blade! Now when I go to put it in I keep my one finger against the blade to make it stay put...oh, just haven't had time to make a sheath for this yet, but it's destined to be riding in one next year! Feel like the cobbler sometimes, no shoes! in this case no sheath, I know some knifemakers have the same problem, they'd love to keep one of their knives for themselves!

So Michael, NOW I understand what you were talking about in that email!!! Sorry to hear that you ruined your pants and ended up at a closed store, double bummer!!

Jay, Michael, wear those Boa sheaths in good health sirs!

Hi there Michael,
I am sorry I found this post.
Please send the knife back to me and I will take care of the problem.
Double thumb studs are a hard thing to predict.
The knife you have is one of the first with the Bearing.
I was still perfecting the right detent for the smoothness.

I am sorry about the Jeans. give me a shout and let me know what I can do to make you happy.
Best Regards,
Brad Duncan

Get some of that iron-on patch material of the right color. Fold it over the worn spot on the pocket and iron down, a custom made "pocket protector". I carry IWB and have worn spots in several pair of pants that I covered in this way. Even nice (office-casual, or jacket and tie) pants can be successfully treated by keeping the iron on patch very narrow and just long enough (on the outside) for the clip.

I have also worn holes in shirts thanks just to rubbing (not cutting) on folders. Hell with em! They're tucked in after all which is why they got worn in the first place. Nobody sees them anyway.

Poor Poor, Mike, always complaining about duel thumb studs. I actually have never had this problem, you guys just must be wearing your pants WAY to tight!!! I actually prefer duel thumb studs, I can't believe that you guys would have it any other way... Get some big pants, and your troubles will go away.
Heheheh,

Well TODAY I did! That sucks big time, I had wondered why there was a growing fuzz part on the front of my pocket, now there is a nice slit instead. The knife had been catching by the tip ever so slightly and making little snipets out, but today I can put my finger through the slit, I have to put my name down on a list and get to making that sheath pronto!!! :(
