Slick leather

I just bought a ka bar 1233 and the leather in the handle is very slick. Is there a way to give the leather more grip other than ruffing it up with sandpaper? The just doesn't sound like the best approach.

Use hair dryer,warm handle,apply Snoseal,rub into handle,let cool,buff with cloth,use knife.
