Quick quesion.

I have a Buck Strider Spear Point that has a small amount of blade play fore and aft. It does not wiggle left to right, but has enough movement that it bugs me. I would love to be able to adjust it myself by maybe taking the knife apart and then bending the liner a bit more but am not sure if this is apppropriate to do. I really do not want to have to send it to Buck for repair since I hate being without my knife!

Any suggestions?

There are a couple of ways to do it yourself. The easiest to try is by adjusting the pivot screws. Sometimes if you tighten the screw(s) it will take the play out if it is a small amount, or the the other is as you said, and break the knife down, and bend the lockbar over a small amount.
I have done it both ways on the Buck/Striders depending on which one I had the problem as I have 6 of the earlier models with the BG42 blades in the 1st production run one that had a small amount of play. They are a couple of years old now, and have not had a problem since adjusting them, and work smooth, and have tight lockup.
Hope this helps.

I have a Mini Srider SP that had the same kind of play. I tried both suggestions offered by Larry with no improvement. So I removed the locking liner again and laid a straight edge on the lock surface. There was a hump in the middle so no matter what else I tried the tang would rock back and forth on that high spot. I filed the high spot down so that the lock surface is now flat. I sacrificed a little on the point where the lock contacts the tang, (from about 45-50% to 60-65%)but the lockup is now rock solid! No play at all.

Hope this helps someone.

It really would be best to send it in so we can take a look at the knife and fix it. If you do decide to take it apart, remember to use locktite on the threaded fasteners.
