Slight modification warranty question

My Delica is a great knife, but I have one small issue. The blade is obviously stamped, and has very sharp edges along the spine and around the Spyderhole. Can I use a Dremel (with the right bit so as to not generate too much heat and whatnot) to smooth out said edges without voiding my warranty?

1000 grit wet/dry will work. Just go slow. If we can managed to dull a sharp edge just by stropping, I bet those tooling residue is easy to get rid off.

I thought about sandpaper, but it would be a total PITA to get the Spyderhole with it. The Dremel tool I would use is a fine synthetic wheel, and I actually just used it a few days ago to smooth the edges (actually the same edges) on my Vantage, and it pretty much worked perfectly after I got the hang of it. That little spinning wheel loved to skid across the blade because I didn't have full control.

So, unless I do something horribly, terribly wrong, my warranty will not be affected by just smoothing the rough edges, correct?

I don't think so but let's wait for more knowledgeable guys to chime in.
I don't think so either, but if you were to return it and there was a warranty issue, you'd just get a new knife back. Not to mention that most warranty issues involve things that were wrong to begin with and are noticed immediately, or in the first few days at most. Only a small percentage are problems that develop over time.

Deacon's got this right again. Materials and workmanship defects would be immediately obvious.

Not always. I had a backspring break on a Kiwi slipit that I'd had and used for months. Since I was in the process of regrinding the blade to full flat (I was getting close, but it was still somewhat convex) I figured the warranty was void, but I sent it in for evaluation anyway. They replaced the knife and told me the spring was cracked long before it finally broke. Material defect, not readily apparent, lead to the failure, so they replaced the modified knife with a new one.

I had two Sage 2's, and one had a very crisp spine and hole, as you speak of.

I used my medium, then fine spyderco rods, and they worked great on the spine. Didn't take long, and you couldn't really tell it had been done.

I used a fine rat tail file on the hole.

It didn't heat the blade enough to effect the warranty.

Some of you guys have to work with your paws a little more and get some calloused hands. ;)

That has nothing to do with it. If I can easily make a knife better to my liking I do.
One Sage 2 I had was almost sharp on the spine(and one was not), but was easy to fix. Some others did the same.
Just the other day I sanded my Para2 clip with a 400 grit, and then scotch bright. Took the shine away, and thats how I wanted it.

I've had a couple of Spyderholes sharp enough to cut my thumbnail, not just my skin. A piece of sandpaper dulled the edge enough to keep them from biting me in under a minute.

I used the Dremel bit, and luckily did not skid it out of the hole or off the edge. Now they are almost perfectly smooth, and I have no need for the zip-tie I had on it (put it on there because the thumb hole was a bloody razor).

Another way to break the sharp edge is to use a thin strip of sandpaper through the hole and use the shoe shine method.

I took the sharp edges off my Sage I Spyder hole using some 400 grit wet/dry paper wrapped around a dowel rod. I also rounded the spine so it is half round instead of square and took the sharp edges off the jimping.

I'm thinking of doing the same to my G10 Dragonfly sometime.
