slight nick / raised area on DMT D6FC 6-Inch Dia-Sharp Double-Sided Fine/Coarse Bench

I was using the referenced stone yesterday and noticed that on the coarse side very near the edge of the stone there is a slight raised area. Nothing large but just enough to feel it slightly catch or bump the blade if you pass over it. Is this anything that will really affect sharpening? If so any way to remedy with ruining that side of stone?

If you look from the side of the stone there is a slight indentation on the side edge almost like it was dropped and hit something hard although I do not remember ever doing so. The indentation line does not go through to the fine side of the stone which is OK.

Sorry no pics but do not have stone with me at moment

Sometimes, if the raised 'bumps' on these are just clumped abrasive (it's pretty common on diamond hones), they can be gently burnished off with something like a ceramic hone; use a very light touch. OR, sometimes scrubbing the edge of a cheap and/or expendable blade on the stone, as if grinding a new bevel, is enough to knock these bumps off. If there's some other damage or defect that won't move or come off, such as to the steel plate or the nickel coating, it may be best to contact DMT and arrange for a replacement. DMT is usually very good about making these things right, one way or another.
