Slight Rant - And Appreciation for This Board

Ok, before I start I know this is a bit of a rant, but I just have to… sorry ahead of times everyone. I have for quite a while visited other boards, none like this one though, the caliber of people that visit here (and common sense) is quite extraordinary, so much so that I seldom go to most of the others. Well, here are all these people who call themselves survivalists talking about bugging out, and what to take and what not to. Now granted some know their stuff, it is where I met Plainsman who does have his head on his shoulders. But some of these people, and they have some kind of influence over some of the less experienced are concerned #1 about having the best military style weapons they can get and then most of the rest of their equipment if not centered around full out assault is haphazard, poorly thought out for actual field survival uses. Some of it is very vaunted stuff, found in high priced stores, but not exactly useful under survival situations. I tried when I first got into visiting the boards to let these people know there is more to survival then weaponry/tactic it is not the military, although some of them do advocate ambushing “hostile forces” which will invade the U.S. like they are going to take on a full blown military with any reasonable chance of success. I even had one person when I described what weapons I own and rely upon tell me to “grow up and get a real rifle, that a military proven weapon is the only weapon that is of use in a survival situation” and they were not talking about anything designed before WWII. Their ideas of a survival situation just are not mine, there is more to concern yourself with than, the New World Order, Y2K, and civil war. I even ahd one guy go so far as to say he was saddened that Y2K didnt brong about the destruction he had hoped for so he could use all these neat toys he had stored up and help fight the authorities.

Ok, sorry for ranting but I am through with all other boards, this one provides me with enough intelligent discourse and information. Thank you gentleman, and I know this is wayyyyy off topic, but I just had to say it.

What has always amused me is the number of people who live in even moderately populated areas who still really think they are going to "take to the bush" in the event of somekind of "Red Dawn" or "Y3K" scenario. I picture all of the national parks surrounding populated areas SWARMING with "survivalists."

Unless you already live in an area that is pretty remote, it is unlikely that you will be able to slip off and live covertly in the bush, without neighbors, for any length of time.

I think Kurt Saxon's with me on this one; If you really are planning on an oppressive political/military situation, you should sell off your townhouses and move to an actual rural area.

As Lee already said, the boards are where he and I met. We found that we believed in "survival" in a similar manner and now both of us have migrated to this board almost exclusively. I only find myself checking the other boards when this one seems "slow". But the QUALITY of this board more than makes up for the QUANTITY of posts!

I've searched the net for years for a site such as this and found most boards are full of "extremists" who also rock the boat. The extremists usually push things too far and get banned or find their way to a board of their own.

Survival means being prepared and that is what most of the discussion here revolves around. We have talked about most topics, but none seem 'extremist' in content.

Also, I've found we can have great "debates" without people's toes getting stepped on!

I am very happy with the board participation. It is a great place for us to all learn from one another. I really enjoy the open debates and constructive critiques that so often occur.

This board runs itself very well and in reality I don't do much...

Kudos to the participants...

Good point Lee. I went to other forums and just never wanted to go back. Just not much of interest to me I guess.

I didn't see the post as a rant so much as a statement of what we have in this forum in terms of information and leadership. I've sure appreciated the information and attitude of participants - but it's also clear that we have moderators who are not only knowledgeable about survival but knowledgeable about leadership.

I guess it's up to all of us to come up with even more interesting topics.
