I stripped the teflon coating off my Cold Steel Recon-1 and it has slight side to side blade play now unless it's really tight. (tighter than I care to run a folder)
It's hard to believe that the small amount of teflon removed from stripping would cause such a dramatic side effect. I contacted another member who stripped his and he's experineced no problems.
I'm wondering if my idea of zero play migh be unrealistic for a knife this long. I'm used to Sebenzas, Hinderers for EDC and they have ZERO play side to side. My bechmade axis locks have a bit, but tightenting them up solid makes them undeployable using one hand. My Spyderco Military has no blade play whatsoever.
Anyone have a recommendation? I thought about finding slightly thicker pivot washers and even ordered a few sizes from knife kits dot com but they were much to thin for the Recon-1.
For now shes' tight as a drum but it takes a heck of a wrist flick to pop it open.
