Slight Side to Side Blade Play

I stripped the teflon coating off my Cold Steel Recon-1 and it has slight side to side blade play now unless it's really tight. (tighter than I care to run a folder)

It's hard to believe that the small amount of teflon removed from stripping would cause such a dramatic side effect. I contacted another member who stripped his and he's experineced no problems.

I'm wondering if my idea of zero play migh be unrealistic for a knife this long. I'm used to Sebenzas, Hinderers for EDC and they have ZERO play side to side. My bechmade axis locks have a bit, but tightenting them up solid makes them undeployable using one hand. My Spyderco Military has no blade play whatsoever.

Anyone have a recommendation? I thought about finding slightly thicker pivot washers and even ordered a few sizes from knife kits dot com but they were much to thin for the Recon-1.

For now shes' tight as a drum but it takes a heck of a wrist flick to pop it open.

no blade whatsoever? no wonder it has no blade play :p :D

None whatsoever! I measue blade play from tip to butt, some guys hold the tip and pivot area, which greatly reduces the felt amount of blade play. This sucker is working fine but I'm thinkig that a 2nd set of washers might do the trick. :)

ther are no liners? you might have to get a washer. if you have a way to measure the pivot pin and thickness needed for a washer on both sides, i might be able to make you a couple from brass.

Thanks for the offer Richard, I appreciate it but I sold my dial calipers with my re-loading gear some years back and have been kicking myself in the ass for it ever since.. Handy tool and I got them when our plant shut down. They were real pricey ones too. :(

It works okay now, just not as nicely as before stripping the teflon off the blade tang.

i have some teflon sheet. if you have some feeler guages and can find out how much room you have with the pivot loose, i might have a piece thin enough to work for a washer. i also have some mylar sheet that might work too.
