How exact are you with checking warp after ht? Do you just eyeball it or take it to a surface plate? I just treated a blade and it looks perfectly straight to my eye but when I flat sand the scale wasn't coming off evenly. After putting slight pressure in the warped area the scale came off. Do y’all get them perfect or is “really close“ good enough for you? I guess it’s a matter of opinion but I’m just curious.

The little longitudinal warp I get I check on a flat surface and correct by tapering the tang a little, the warp is always at the handle/blade junction so far.
A slight vertical warp from spine to edge I find it extremely hard to see, especially on small blades of course, but they present when flat sanding on the platen. So I just sand till it's gone otherwise the sanding looks funky. Of course there is a way around that by hand sanding with a rubber or leather backed sanding sheet.
I plan to get a SGA for this reason.

Surface plate does wonders. I used to have a lot more trouble with straightening until I got a section of glass (free cutoff at a local glass shop) to use as a surface plate. Eyeballing is hard to do when you have no reference.

Thanks everyone, I kept hand sanding (for a long time) and got it flat. Then I had to sand the bevels to get them even again. It seems to be good now. Thanks for the advice!
