Slightly disappointed in my TKC scales for my Bk12

Well, didn't realize the TKC scales mounted different than the factory scales. They aren't compatible with my BK12 because of the brass fittings in the handle of the bk12. I would have to drill out the knife for the fasteners to pass through. Wish I would have known, I would have ordered factory Micartas from Coyles for this knife.

Sorry to hear that, I would try and contact Dale and Ethan. I have had great success with their service.
Best of luck.

I think the Micarta handles are the same. They are solid, and the factory scales are semi hollow. The TKC ones are a bit heavier than the factory scales anyway, so removing the brass weights isnt a bad thing. Try it with the handles and no weights for a few would be my suggestion.

That isn't the problem, there is metal where the plugs are threaded is in the way of the screws. I am not worried about having the weights in the knife, I can't get them to line up with the knife as is

You may have gotten a bum set of scales, then; because scales for any full size Becker SHOULD work (minus the brass plugs). Try them on another BK to check.

Nevermind - I see what you mean....the TKC scales don't use the stock mounting holes for the bolts. There's a small pin that fits in the two outside holes, and the scales are partially drilled for those pins - those are basically for stabilization since the mounting hardware they use sits in the skeletonized part of the tang. That's unfortunate....it also means that they wouldn't work with an unskeletonized version (older BK2s, for example)

Exactly

BK12, stock scale, TKC scale

Flipped, with the TKC scale next to knife - note the blind holes where the outer mounting bolts would have been

Knife over scale - note how the blind holes line up, and the second mounting hole is under the section with the plugs

(And, no, removing a plug would not let the mounting hardware fit - the holes don't line up right - one could grind/drill it enough to make it work without too much trouble, though.)

The handle is not that hard to drill. And drilling there won't affect the heat-treat of the blade. Deburring the drill hole will still allow the brass plug to be used.

The scales will have to be drilled out some if the brass plugs are going to be used. Indeed, any generic "large BK scale" in micarta or G10 will have this 'problem' with the BK12.

So, thinking I may drill it out. Anyone want to talk me out of it?
No. ;)

Need another pic for more evalution. Lay the TKC scale on the handle and mark where the drill hole will go. Use something white so we can see it clearly.

Place the stock scales, plugs and blade on a scale and get the weight, then do the same with tkc and blade alone. If they are close, buck up and pull out the material with a dremel and carbide bit, attach scales and be on your way.

I don't plan on ever selling my Beckers, so modding them is of no concern of mine.
