Slightly more specific sharpening question.

I want to get an idea of what other Sebenza owners prefer for the angle they sharpen their knives. I have had mine for a while now and it's only now that I'm thinking of touching it up. Do most of you keep it at the factory angle or do you reprofile it in any way?

I don't generally use it for fine slicing jobs so I was considering sharpening it to 40 to make a more "robust" edge.

What do you guys think?

I'll be doing this on the Edgepro.
 
What are you cutting which requires 20 degrees per side? I'll be taking mine down to ten after I stock work evaulate the NIB edge.

What Cliff said. I sharpen to the Chris Reeve edge on the Sharpmaker. I do have a couple of Buck knives that I've changed angle on to better suit my use, but not the CR.
 
The knife was sent out awhile ago from the states, I expect it in 1-2 weeks. The mail is *really* slow here. Once I get it I'll put up a quick impression with some stock work in a few days, then do some edge holding work, maybe 1-2 weeks more, then put it in extended rotation.

I set the angle of my Edge Pro at 21 degrees (42 inclusive). But because of the hollow grind I know that I'm really sharpening at a smaller angle (I set the edge of the knife just over the edge of the Edge Pro base plate.

Does anyone know what effective angle does that make my edge?

I do this because I get more solid contact the the Edge Pro this way. I've tried to hold the knife still on the upper part of the blade that is near the spine, but don't get enough "purchase" on the Edge Pro this way.

I sharpen mine to 21°, followed by a 24° strop on Autosol-impregnated leather.

I can be that precise because I use an Edge Pro Apex. ( ;) )

Looks like 21 is a popular angle. I'll give that a go and see how it turns out. Now that I have my edgepro I can start to play around with different angles. I don't yet trust myself to get accurate angles on a bench stone. Maybe one day. :)
