Slightly off topic- but still about Khukuris...

Just got my second Khukuri House "Operation Iraqi Freedom Khukuri (OIFK)." I'd traded my Cold Steel Gurka Kukri with Concealex scabbard/sheath (all mint condition) for a second OIFK. (Please remember, this was before ordering my first Himalayan Imports Chiruwa Ang Khola...)

My first OIFK was/is a great knife, but as "unfinished" as my CAK is beautiful, and polished to the nth degree... It came just a bit dull along the belly, and the Karda needed sharpening too... The scabbard/sheath was/is too loose, and needs some care to make it fit better. All in all, a well made knife, capable of hard work, or taking care of serious social difficulties...

The second one, courtesy of DHL, arrived less than an hour ago. Unlike the first, this one is "PERFECT." Scary sharp, both Khukuri and Karda, and the scabbard/sheath fits beautifully. Finish on the wood panels of the grip are truly beautiful... I was happy before, but now am overjoyed with this one... Both will grace different Bug Out Bags (BOBs), with the knowledge that I can task my remaining Bowies to other duties...

My CAK? She's amazing... Each and every time I pick her up, she seems faster, more sure, and gives me more confidence... Quick to transition from one direction in the midst of a stroke, there's no wavering or wobble... Almost like magick...

Where's she spend the night? Under the pillow that used to belong to my ex... I prefer my CAK, thanks... Evil-doers beware... On my side of the bed, there's one of my SA XD-40 Tacticals with Silvertips... Fitting, don't you think? Silent but deadly, paired with thunder and lightning? Surely, the best of both worlds for reaching out and saying "H-I!" :)
Will the well made OIFKs ever replace my CAK? NO WAY! For very serious social circumstances, the CAK is lighter, more sure, and faster... What the folks at H-I have created, is what Angus Trim has done for swords... Gus is known as the Father of Performance Swords... True. He IS the best- NONE better... H-I's CAK is like one of Gus' swords... Perfection. None better.

Wherever I go, my CAK goes...

Still, my hat's off to the folks at Khukuri House. Their products and service are honorable, and funds that go to Nepal do help their Kamis and employees... For my money, they're one of the two best Khukuri providers out "there..."

Take care, stay safe, and have fun...

funny thing is that I feel the same too............

My Bura 15' 18oz felt uneasy and heavy at 1st........ :o

but with time it felt sure and fast......it's only been a few days..... :o and I am sure it will fell fast as lightening...............not used to large blades...........or any blades at all........... :o

hey Carter ! have you decided on your next ? ;)

Carter, I don't recall; have you tested either of your Khukuri House khuks on wood?

Hi Munk,

Not yet. I'm a wee bit under the weather right now. Taking an afternoon of down time... Tomorrow I'll be doing some cutting at our local Rod and Gun Club- while doing some archery... If I can't make it there, I'm sure I can turn something up here in town...

I wish there were some way I could determine Rockwell hardness. It seems as if it takes a bit more effort to sharpen the OIFKs VS. my CAK...

Well, just gave myself my first Khukuri "GACK!" in a year... Was putting the latest OIFK in it's sheath, and accidently had my little finger, left hand, under the sheath... Stupid is, as stupid does... 1/2" cut, not too deep... Just bloody out of proportion to damage... Definitely "stupid" sharp...

Hmmmmm. Just noticed that the new OIFK does not have the engraved sayings the first one does... Doesn't matter... Second one is still best...

Since this "GACK!" cut through the scabbard/sheath, I've got to come-up with something better/safer... I may wrap with high quality wire, and then put a camouflage "sock" over the whole... Either that, or see if somebody on the Forum here does custom scabbard/sheaths...

Does anybody here do Concealex or Cordura?

I'll get back to you tomorrow night as to how the OIFK does against my CAK...

Take care, stay safe, and have fun...

Hi Astrodada!

Just read about Steely-Gunz' kerambit by Dave Koster... I may get one of those, price permitting, while deciding upon my next H-I... Of one thing I am certain, the next Khukuri will be an H-I, or two, or three...

I'm glad you got your first one, and I'll bet you love it just as much, or more, than any other knife you've had...

The only competition my CAK has, is my Arik Estus Scot's Dirk... Arik is to Scot's Dirks and Skean Dhus, as Angus Trim is to swords... I'm sure that the H-I CAK is in the category of "bests." If the house were burning, of my knives, Arik's Dirk and Skean Dhu, and my H-I CAK would be the only knives I'd grab... All else could be replaced...

Yes, my friend, this place, and these knives, ARE addictive... In a healthy, pleasing kind of way...

Take care, stay safe, and have fun...
