Thought I'd share a couple of shots of my slightly pimped large regular Sebenza with ivory paper micarta overlay which I just did this evening. The micarta scales are 1/16th inch thick to begin with, and I sanded them some during the shaping process, so they are a little thinner now. Since this is the 1st of these I've done, I used some high tech double sticky sided indoor/outdoor carpet tape to attach the scales. This stuff is very sticky, but I can remove the scales if I want to later without damage to the Seb. I used a hand drill to do the pin holes, and did a little touch up shaping with the dremel. I shaped the scale stock with my 1"x42" belt sander using the 8" disk to ruff them in and finished with a 600 grit belt. I plan to do a little more hand sanding with 600 and up wet/dry grits.
Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the results. I'm already planning to make another set of scales for it due to one slightly boogered up spot around the stop pin hole that is visible in the pix but not too gnarly in the hand. I'm confident I can improve the process the second time around and probably end up with what I want (a drill press would beat the hell out of a hand drill). Btw, the micarta provides a much grippier surface that I really like, and I like the look of the ivory micarta.
What do ya think?
