Slightly proud Bullseye on Carver - input please

New and lovin' FB, folks. Andy is an artist as well as a master craftsman, to be sure, and as you all know, but I had to say it.

Picked up a Carver (thanks, Rick!) and love it. Much like my beloved old RMK Cattleman, but more compact and better for the carve.

So, of course fit and finish is truly great - so this is not intended as a ding at all - but the lone minor issue I have on this great knife (and it was a user, folks) is that the bullseye is slightly proud or elevated over the slabs on both sides. Now this is slight, but I don't want a hot spot.

I am no stranger to home mods and working on users - both on the steel as well as handles - but I do not want to inadvertently wear down the surrounding and softer Micarta by accident making matters worse if I try to sand or grind down the bullseye a bit.

Suggestions?

Thanks, All!

Ken

Let Fiddleback Fiddleback and VANCE VANCE take care of it for you. They are good about that. While they have it, I'm sure a small spa treatment would be in order if this has been a regular user. They'll check those pins too! I've noticed this on a particular suppliers material in the past. Like you said Kenneth F Huls Kenneth F Huls it's slight but it's there and can be a hot spot for sure.

Thank you both for the input. I am glad no slight was taken. While the blades are truly fantastic, if I was forced to pick a design and execution feature/element that sets FB's apart from the many, many makers knives I have owned and used, it would be the handles of the three FB's I now possess and enjoy so much. But really, it is the whole package.

VANCE VANCE , I am grateful for the expert advice. I usually free-hand unbacked on my sanding mods. I will carefully consider giving it a go, but may follow Choppaman Choppaman and his sage advice in the end (or if I feel I am botching it a bit!).

VANCE VANCE , would you kindly recommend a grit to start given your knowledge of bullseyes?

we start at 220 and then move to 400

Followed advice and it is really improved. Not perfect, but much better. Also reprofiled the edge and sharpened her. Now she is in an oil bath for the touched up scales.

If in use I remain concerned about a hot spot I shall follow additional advice and send her in to the pros!

Many thanks and kind rgds.

Awesome!!! Nice work!!

Yea, in the past we had trouble with some of that burlap shrinking. If you ever need that issue fixed, send it in for a free touchup. I hope you are happy with it. Maybe its time to do a few more of these.

Thank you for that, Andy. Wonderful of you to offer. I will see how it goes first.

I figured something like that and heard it was a "limited supplier at one time issue." Just great to see you stand behind the product and warranty in that fashion, especially as a secondary owner (not that I doubted it based on your fine reputation).

I am glad to hear you say that about this blade profile, too! I have found knives of this "type," be they more of a modified, short Wharncliffe, a short sheepsfoot, a short Graham-style "Razel," or the less well known lambsfoot to be the very best EDC knife. 2" to 3" or so can do so much more in these related profiles than other styles, IMHO. I know this is billed as the "Carver," and I have already found it is great for exactly that, but to limit such a useful EDC profile to carving alone is a real shame for the knife user.

Bonus with such related profiles is that the perfectly straight edge is so very easy to profile, sharpen, maintain.

Pretty much black and white warranty issue IMO. We try to keep the product running well....
