Here's a slim hunter, might even qualify as a bird and trout pattern, I just finished.
Blade is 1/8" O1
Blade length:3.5"
Overall Length:7.5"
Scales are Cocobolo, finished with Danish Oil. The pictures don't show the contouring very well, but guess thats what I get for using a scanner.
At least you can see the grain, I really wish I could find more wood this nice. Only have enough for 3-4 more knives from this peice :grumpy:
Pins and thong hole are brass.

Before anyone calls me an ego maniac for the file work, I was planning on keeping this one to carry myself once in awhile :D
Much as I like it, its just not quite what I'm looking for so I'll probably let it go. I think I want something a little bit bigger for myself.

Thanks for looking. I appreciate any comments or ideas :D

No comments/opinions at all? Dont' know whether thats good or bad  :D

NAH, just the holiday business, I suspect. I've been away with the holiday blues...

I like the high flat grind till it reaches your "egomaniacle"
(doesn't look like I spelled it right????)
spine. Good grief that's some bit of file work!!!
I got to get a piece of your work just to see if your blademanship is as well done as your detail work :)

At first glance I think the lanyard hole is too small. I usually use paracord with the core strands.

Is the tip rounded?
I like pointy tips :)

I don't really know what a bird&trout is about. I suspect it's a small skinner which explains the blunted tip.

I like the last picture which highlights the beautiful grain in the wood.

VERY nice work, Matt
Tom

Well Matt I usually don't reply to an egotistical makers post no matter how nice the knives are but since you asked. Looks like your filework has come a long way since I first saw you using this as your logo (it should be, you've had enough practice on this knife alone :p ), the handle looks hand filling and comfortable, I like the danish oil finish. It does look like the point is rounded but maybe that's the scanner, I used a scanner for most of my knives and I know they can do some strange things. Looks like a nice user friendly knife.

Thanks alot guys :)
The point is pretty dull right now, but so is the whole blade. I don't want to sharpen it till I make the sheath. Will work on the point when I start in on it with a stone, the beltsander is just a little too fast for stuff like that (I could make it an exacto knife before I got it even  ;) )

Glad everyone likes the filework. I just did it for the first time today on 1/4" thick stock. That was quite a bit different, took a lot longer, but turned out OK. I'll want more practice at that. I only marked it once though :D

Thanks for lookin.

Oh yeah, this one is actually hollow grind,8" wheel same as all my knives. Actually more like 7.5" wheel, I use a benchgrinder and its got a lot of knives under its belt.

EDIT:
How thick is most paracord? I've been using some generic stuff I got in town and it will thread through but its a tight fit. Inside diameter of the tubing is about 5/32".

My wife just looked at it and said it would also make a great kitchen knife, she also asked if you liked yourself so much to put your name 3 times where's the little mirror to look at yourself when you're using it :D

just out of curiosity how can it have a lot of knives under it's belt when it's a wheel

:D
Well I woulda put a mirror on it but my fingers got tired of sanding way too early ;)
I guess thats not the best analogy on a grinder with no belt huh  I just didn't want to admit I was carving knotches in it like a wanna be gunslinger

Nice Matt. Love the way you put your name in the filework. You've got more patients then me. :D I love that style for a hunting knife. Pure and simple without all the bells and whistles.
Scott

Thanks Scott :) I might have to have somebody take pictures while I put my name in sometime. After the initial experimenting to figure it out its probably one of the easiest patterns I do, not nearly as difficult as it looks, I do have quite a bit of practice at it though.
I probably won't do a tutorial like that cause you guys will put my name on the knives you screw up though ;) :D

Matt here's a thought for you to ponder. The lanyard hole you put on the handle is the best thing to have on a hunting knife. I don't make my hunters without one. Try placing the hole at the top instead of the bottom. With that style handle it can be done. If the pommel end is sloped at the top, you will have to place it at the bottom. The reason I mention this because after testing my hunters in the field, the chute cord I use is above the knife around your wrist and it is actually more comfortable to wrap it around your wrist. Hope that makes sense.
