So, I'm thinking of "pocket melting" my old 112. I've heard that Mr. Sitflyer is the authority on this so I'm wondering maybe if there are some suggestions before I really get into the nitty gritty of this project. I've seen a few pictures but most of the threads are old and the pictures are no longer there. :(. If I were to do this are the original scales salvageable? It's a 2dot frame with a 2013 blade in it. The original blade was worn to a nub. If not, I've got plent of nice wood in the shop I could replace it with. So, how should I go about this one?

I just recently slimmed a 112 round style not like the old 2 dot. Look at the thread 112 modification i dropped a different blade in also. Took alot of weight off it. But it still dont feel right in your pocket. But it works great in a watch pocket! :)

I saw that thread. I was in on it too. Mine was the one that inspired Chris to do his. But yours and his turned out much nicer than mine.

I would pop off the scales, and re-peen the lockbar pivot pin under the new super awesome scales that you would then put on it.
I would also take out the blade so shaping the bolsters would be easier, and no risk to the blade from sanding tools.

The voice of reason arrives. :). That does sound like a great idea. But still I think that one I've seen still had the original scales and pins in it. I think that would look awesome too

Mine still does that i slimmed.

Ok.... if you were to leave the scales on, I would use some thin CA on the ends of all the scale pins and the lockbar pivot ;)
Then after it has soaked in, do the final sanding/buffing :)

Thin CA is the consistency of water.... soaks into places regular superglue can't.....

Get it at a hobby store....

KN nice knife, back to thread might be nice to go with a bare rear bolster, I did that with a 110 and antler, dropped a lot of weight but still bulky could slim more with right material. I might have to try something on that order with a 112 for a pocket carry.

Today, I'm carrying a new to me 2-dot 112 gifted to me by a close friend. It's from his brother who was a Marine. Wonderful knife made better by the close connections.

The 112 is, in my opinion, the prettiest knife Buck has ever produced. And the big fat original width has great appeal in the hand. I'm glad to have an original fattie again.

This said, I think there's room in the Buck line up for a production Slimfit 112. The 500 and 112 are both the same size as the most popular pocket knives. But I think only old farts like me would choose to pocket carry the original 112. If Buck were to make a Slimfit 112 and possibly tap the end of the bottom bolster to accept an end mount removable pocket clip (I had pocket clips but I'm in the minority, I know) then I think Buck would have a winner.

And yes, they should bring back the Ecolite 112 but do that in a Slimfit too, again with a removable pocket clip.

Second the slim fit EL112 and a EL500 too! I'm carrying my 112 in the 500 sheath today and it carries just wonderful in it for this 51 year old!

Peter, since we're dreaming... If they bring back the Ecolite 112 (and yes, please, Ecolite 500), I would prefer to see them come back as barehead with metal pivot bolsters. No *as* light as the original Ecolites but lighter than the classics. Would be prettier too. Not as "cheap" looking, if you know what I mean.

I'm thinking of something like JAGCustom's barehead 112, only with Paperstone scales.
