Sling for AK?

I now have an Arsenal SGL-31 5.45 and it has sling points near the end of the stock and also at the end of the hand guard on the left side of the rifle and want a sling that will work with the AK system and I know that 5.11 and Magpul have good slings but whether they will work with the AK is not known to me. Nice thing about the Magpul is that they are able to go from single point to two point. I am not a tactical operator or anything of the sort but it would be nice to have a sling to keep the rifle out of the dirt.

Bitter, define your mission for your AKM/AK-74? What are you intending to use it for if you can disclose on the forum. That will better help us in suggesting a style of sling and then the vendors who make a good sling based upon your style.

If primarly for home defense then we'll suggest one style, if for wilderness hiking/survival then probably something else depending upon your needs.

Define the mission first, then select the sling type based upon the mission profile and then third select the vendor (5.11, Magpul, Blue Force et al) last.

If I need to haul wood for my wood stove, but I really like the Toyota Prius and I buy it to haul wood then I'm buying the wrong vehicle for my mission profile. It is the same with slings. Single points are all the latest rage (just like Prius and other eco/green cars). But Single Points are not neccessarly the best choice for a "middle of the night" home defense situation when I don't have time to get "dressed" with a single point...instead I need a "grab and go" system like a traditional two point instead. See what I mean?

Whereas if I backpacking a lot, then a single point works well when carrying a backpack and the two point or three point doesn't work as well in conjunction wtih a 50 pound back pack. They will work, but not as effectively.

I would like a two point but what I would like it for it kind of like a get out of dodge kind of situation where I might need to throw it on and get going that is why I am also looking at a lightweight chest rig like an SOE or the new Maxpedition rig. I think that a full MOLLE set up would be cool but lightweight is what I like especially with these hot Texas summers. But I would like a sling that is nice and durable and easy to manipulate and will work with the AK system. Most of the time I will be at the range shooting the AK but I want to find some public land here in Texas and maybe try some running and gunning for fun and practice. My middle of the night home defense gun is my Mossberg 500 with 00. And I am not planning on doing much backpacking with the Ak unless it is a get out of dodge situation.
