Does anyone know if any after market manufacturer or anyone makes a sling for the plastic stock Ruger 10/.22?
I have to walk with a walking stick or cane if I am going any distance (a hundred yards for me.) and a sling would help me get back out in my beloved woods for tree rats and.

I just bought this gun and fitted it with a 3 X 9 Simmons brushed chrome scope and I haven't been able to get out to see how close my cuz got it with his bore sight.

I also like a sling for more stability in holding on a target.
I like one shot, one kill and when it's difficult to stand without support the sling makes that much more realistic.

TIA!!!

YSVA,

My recollection is that the sling swivels are not the quick detachable style which are more common these days, but are permanently attached.

aside from that, any rifle sling you like should work fine. To me eye, the synthetic stock sort of wants a nylon sling rather than leather. I know Uncle Mike's makes a number of nylon slings that will work fine.

Ruger has a factory sling with some of their high end 10/22's. Has Ruger embrodried in red on it. Probably could get one from them. Cheapest way is probably just get a set up from Wal Mart. I have a fold over stock on my 10/22 and had to drill the rings into it.

Thanks Mike and Randy!!!

I wasn't sure whether the compsite stock could be drilled or not.
It doesn't matter if the sling is the quick detachable style. I have one on my Marlin .357 Mag. Carbine and have never taken it off.

I like the idea of the nylon as it will be lighter than the leather.
And it doesn't need to be anything fancy.

When drilling the holes for mounting do you do that like you would a regular wood or sheet metal screw and do they need to be epoxied in?

And are the mounting screws supplied with the sling?

Many thanks!!!!

Yvsa,

I think every 10/22 I have ever seen had sling swivels already on it. I just went to the Ruger site to take a look, and I don't see them on the polymer stock version, although the photo isn't great.

I don't think you are likely to find anything other than the QD style swivels for sale anywhere, unless you have a old gun shop with some real old stock on hand.

The front swivel generally attaches to the barrel band by removing the screw, slipping a thin plate between the two halves, and reinstalling the screw. I have never tried to install a swivel in a fiberglass or polymer stock. It doesn't seem like it would be much different than a wood stock, but there may a trick to it, like how close to screw size the drill bit should be, whether or not to use a standard wood screw, and whether or not you should use epoxy, and what type.

Someone here may know, or your gun shop should be able to tell you.

Get a Hogue overmolded rubber stock. I love mine! Have it for both 10/22 and Ruger MK77II.

Use a GI issue web sling. It will go through the sling swivels and holds it self together by the sliders on the sling. Very secure. OR use webbing with the appropriate size buckles. Don't use climbing webbing as it is SLICK nylon.
