And sold ---- :)

Well I've been here five years now on Bladeforums. In this time I have made a few new friends, learned a lot, sold a few knives.

AND............
I just finished my SEVEN HUNDRETH slip joint folder.

Scales - Iron Wood
Steel - 3/32'' ATS34
Closed - 3 3/4''

The guy that is getting these two knives owns all of my 100's. Some day I will have him shoot a photo of them all together.
He is a very close friend of my dad's. - Enjoy the new knives Jim.
The bottom knife is #700

Looking forward to another five years.

Thanks for the looks, have a great day.

Looking good Todd, congrats on 700! I enjoy seeing all of your knives here on the forum, you are a huge benefit to the traditional and custom knife communities here. Keep up the great work, I know you will.

Nathan

Todd, when I made my first slip joint you were at #500. I'm now at #20. Are you fast or am I slow?

Good looking.
You're busy, doesn't seem like that long ago you announced your 500th knife.

Congrats on the great achievement. I'm glad I've been able to add 3 of those to my collection.

I really have a soft spot for matching pairs....
Did you number your 700th folder? Did they go to one collector?

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Congratulations on #700 AND another fine looking pair of knives Todd!

How long ago was #1 made...if you don't mind saying?

Bruce my first 20 and more were VERY hard, than I got faster as I figured them out. Than I slowed down again to get ALL the problems figured out. That took me to a little over 500 of them, about 510 - 520? to make every knife with out a PROBLEM? And the LAST problem I had was to hide the pivot pin each an EVERY time. And since about 520 I can do that now...... and that help me get a little faster again.....:D:D:thumbup:
I have seen your knives, they look great and you will get FASTER. :)
Thanks my friend and fellow knife maker. -

Congrats on the great achievement. I'm glad I've been able to add 3 of those to my collection.

Thank You - Thank You - Thank You, I have been very fortunate to find some GREAT knife collectors here. They buy one and than they buy another one and another one and another one and.........:D

Yes I did number it inside on the liner, like I do all of the knives, accept the liner less ones. They have a number just not inside. They did go to the same collector, he has ALL of my knives that end in 00's. He is a close friend of my dad's and some day I will have him shoot a photo of them all together.
I do appreciate the reply - Thanks!!

I started the insanity about September of 2005, right before the time I joined here.
This is a photo of numbers ONE and TWO, you can see that the scales on one are cracked.
IF I new how HARD these knives were to make REALLY??? I would have NEVER started...... :thumbdn::rolleyes::D

Big AL owns these two knives #one and #two, he is my friend that has done all my photos.

I made these two knives from scratch just like I have made all 700 from scratch.

How many Slip Joint makers do you know that makes ALL their knives from scratch with out a pattern???????:eek::)

Yes even these last two #699 and #700 were made with out a pattern and about the only way I can tell them apart? is from the spot on the wood.

Thanks for the replies EVERYONE - I do appreciate them all.

Thanks for the info Todd. I would say that is quite an accomplishment to make as many fine looking knives as you have in the time that you have been making them.

Hopefully, i'll get the chance to have one some time!

Peter

I made knives for about 25 years before I started making slip joints. Actually I never thought in that time, that I would make a slip joint.
You see quite a few new makers trying to get into making slip joints, some have skills to make knives and some don't. I had some pretty good skills starting - Grinding,( Ground blades 25 years free hand) file work,( look at my guns I filed, did a lot of them) polishing,(Had to go back and polish all those guns filed, by hand) pining handle material ( made knives 25 years, that means probably thousands of knives.)
And it still took me 500 hundred of these to get them right EVERY time..
If I would have used patterns, it probably would have been a little easier for me? But I went the hard way.:D

Thanks Todd, I hope you enjoy the knives a long, long time.
Keep watching...... :D:thumbup:

Great knives, too!

Thank you very much. -

Congrats and well done. You are certainly and inspiration for me.
Cheers Bruce

I have helped quite a few makers with making slip joints, I appreciate the kind words.

There are some very nice custom slip joints being made, but I don't think I have to tell you guys that? :D

Thank you all again,

Todd

i could see your knives being advertised in "Cigar afficianado" magazine.

When you say they are all made without a pattern, do you mean not even your own pattern?

:)

Kerry said about same thing last night -
I told him when I go to make a sway back, I have a photo of a Tony Bose sway back on my wall, I look at it and make the knife.
I free hand (grind) the blade out by looking at it. Sometimes I use a black marker and do a sketch, than grind.
No I do not have or have used any patterns, Like other guys would use to trace around and make the knife.

He ask me if I turned my machine down to do the pinch bolsters, I told him I don't have variable speed - just full blast...... :D:thumbup:

Durwood, I get all my knives from looking at some in old knife books, than just grind it out and make it.
If you do enough knives, you can do them that way.

Todd
