Hello all! I've been thinking about it lately and I feel that I need a dress up pocket knife. I would like Damascus blades and mammoth ivory scales. I prefer the whittler patterns and would LOVE to have one of the blades be a wharncliffe. I do not want a locking knife. Does anyone know of a manufacturer who makes one along these lines for less that about $225? I would love to get a Case knife made this way, but I can't find any where they combined Mammoth ivory and Damascus blades. :( Any help with links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

We have some outstanding slip joint makers here, but I think for what you are looking for, its going to be very hard to find, in the price range you want to be in.

If you go to the Exchange forum, you will find a Makers subforum, and at the top of it is a section for folders. You will be able to see some of the work of these makers, as well as being able to contact them

You can get some damascus Case slip joints within your price range but the mammoth ivory handle is going to sink you. I think the closest you're going to get is a Case whittler or Seahorse whittler. Both were made at one point or another with damascus blades and stag handles. The Seahorse pattern has a wharncliffe main blade so that might be a good first choice for you. You could always seek out a custom maker but that is going to put you way out of your price range considering the materials.

Mammoth ivory is an extremely expensive material, and good damascus isn't cheap either. If you were to buy a custom, the extra cost of those materials over the "base" price could easily be more than your $225 price point. If such a production knife exists at that price, I doubt it'd be worth owning.

Thanks for all the replies, guys! I figured this was kind of a pipe dream. I'm a little confused as to why Case hasn't offered something like this. I know I can't be the only one who would jump on a knife like this with both feet.
I figured that there wasn't much of a chance of finding what I want at the price point I would like. I think at this point my best option is probably to get one customized to what I would like. I know I can get some nice Case Damascus knives for 150-160 and I'm sure there is someone out there that could swap out the scales for Mammoth ivory. I think it's probably time to start perusing the custom knife section and see if there is anyone who can do what I would like for me. Oh, shucks...I'm going to have to buy a semi-custom knife...what a terrible thing..lolol.

You could check out Bear and Sons. They make some knives in damascus and mammoth. I didn't find any with a true wharncliffe, but there's a stockman with a sheepsfoot and a congress with 2 sheepsfoots. You should do a search on peoples' opinions on Bear and Sons first though. They're not always exactly favorable.

I think you are on the right track. Find the Case you want and swap out the scales.

Planterz,

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say anything favorable about Bear and Sons! :) I did do some poking around and came across one of their knives in damascus with mammoth ivory scales...sigh. It's tempting to just drop the $ on it and take my chances, but I'm not a fan of buying inferior products. Thanks so much for the suggestion and the warning, though.

Chouse,

That's where I'm at right now. I'm currently digging through the makers forum to see who might be able to do what I'm wanting for me. I'm sure that after I'm done the knife will probably only be worth what I've got in it....it's not going to be some kind of exponential thing, but that doesn't matter...I think by the time I'm done with it, it'll be a beautiful knife I'll be happy to carry for dress up for the rest of my life, which is my original goal.
