I just picked up a handful of rough old knives that I'm hoping to turn into solid users. I have them soaking in a concoction of penetrating oil at the moment, and I'm searching around for some ins and outs of slip joint repair. If you know of any good websites, videos, or threads please post a link.

Take a look at the traditional folders and fixed blades subforum here. There are some good threads about repairing and "pimping" slipjoints. Welcome to the forum too. :)

Some (maybe just one, in the yellow handle) of your knives look like they might have a clamshell-style 'bolster', i.e. it looks like a solid bolster, but is actually stamped to shape from thinner sheet metal stock; the 'scales' and bolsters are all one piece, on each side. Look for a metal 'tab' at the end of the bolster/cap, which folds under to attach it to the liner. Very common on knives made by Imperial (& branded under many other names), in particular. If so, here's a thread that might be interesting to you:

For more conventionally-bolstered traditional knives, this thread is pretty good:

 Awesome links, exactly what I was looking for. I've been searching the forum, but I don't think I would have found those on my own.
