Slip joint springs

I have seen some makers file work the springs on slipjoints, is that risky? More or less so on damascus springs? I would think, if done it should be done after heat treat, Thanks in advance Mark

mark it dosen't really matter since springs file rather easily. if you do it before heat treat then you have to go back in and clean things up, I guess that it might be easier before with stainless.
