Thanks to everyone for the help. Here is the slip joint I've been working on.

cpm-154 stainless steel hollow ground blade with swedge
half stop
fine silver thumb studs
relieved stainless steel liners
416 bolsters
mesquite handle (customer's choice, not mine)

Ryan, I've been waiting to see this one since I saw a couple of slip joint questions from you. I expected it to be very well done with great lines and great fit/finish, and you didn't disappoint. Great work as usual!

So, how was building that slippie? I've been thinking about heading that way a bit in my making, but don't have much in the way of precision machines except for a decent drill press.

BTW, any closed pics?

Thanks for the comments guys.

Nathan there were some problems I ran into, and for now I think they were due to inexperience more so than slip joint problems. I only have a $40 drill press from harbor freight, a kmg, a flat granite plate, and a bushing lap from Bill Vining. I used a dial indicator on the drill press a dozen times to make sure it was always square and a barrel lap from msc to fit the bronze bushings. The blade is centered and seems to work great.
I used the the studs as a way to get a nail nick that didn't look hideous, seems that's a love or hate relationship. Another thing I did was use my etcher to get the liner relief. I don't have a mill and felt this was the best way to do those two steps without a mill.

thought I had this pic in there. It's the only decent closed picture I have

Yeah, those thumb studs are way cool. I especially like it because the bolsters large enought to engrave .............
