In a world in a hurry going nowhere at times, it is nice to have a kid put life stuff in perspective if you will.

Uncle 'teve, what swip-oink does WoadWunner cawwy?

I can understand RoadRunner cartoons, Tweety Bird, Yosemite Sam, Daffy-Duck, Snoopy...

Just I was not expecting this cute little lady to ask me what slip-joint Road Runner carried.

I do what any Southern Gentlemen that hangs with tight bunch and is the "Adopted Uncle" does in a situation such as this.

I sip my coffee and offer the kid a sip of my coffee.
I was not stalling...
I was just being a gentleman is all.

"Peanut darlin', just like this one".
I pulled my Peanut out, as she has seen mine and others like it, and knife was closed, she is being parented and mentored so she put her hand in mine and
and little fingers ran over it while she listened.

"See, in the desert the yellow handles show up, in case it gets dropped or set down while doing something with it, CV blades cut through all that ACME stuff Wylie is always messing with"

<big eyes, attentive, nodding head and cute smile>

Satisfied I had answered her question she went back to playing.
The rest of the adults, including her mom ,sitting there with jaws dropped and eye squinting as to what had just happened.

Now I do not personally own a TV, have not in years and years. It is rare I actually view a TV, and then a rented movie, educational tape, or DVD.

Still since the cute young lady had asked me this question, out of the clear blue, it just made perfect sense to discuss what slip-joints cartoon characters carry.

This was a lot of fun, other kids got involved, and of course I had to shown what and who and what-not some characters are.

My characters and slip-joint:

RoadRunner - Case ,YH , CV Peanut.
Betty Boop - Hen & Rooster , MOP, half whittler
Yosemite Sam - Boker Stockman with red jigged bone
Tweety-Bird - Case Mini-Trapper, MOP
Snoopy - Case Barehead Slimline Trapper, with custom wood handles made from the propeller of one the planes he shot down as the Red Baron.

What say you?

Steve

Somehow I remember that Goofy carries a red Vic knockoff that apparently is one-hand opening. I was never much for cartoons but I remember him cutting chewing tobacco with it to use as fish-bait. Funny things you remember.

I picture Yosemite Sam with a classic American Bowie but he'd probably have a Stockman in his back pocket too.

I have this one on DVD! Actually, it's my kids'. :) It's not a SAK, but just a normal looking brown handled pocketknife. Goofy whittles off pieces of his plug of tobacco into a hole in the ice and sets a spittoon near the hole. When the fish come up to spit, he tries to wack 'em with a bat. :D

mnblade - Yah, after trying to find the vid online it appears it was made way to early to be a SAK. For some reason on my version(in my parents house somewhere) it looks red. "Oh the world owes me a livin".

Indeed. We have it on a DVD of classic Disney cartoons that, I'm guessing, dates back to the 30s. Pretty fun to see my 2-year-old chuckling at stuff like that!
