Hello,
I am looking for a website or document or whatever that shows the most common slipjoint designs and their uses and some history on the design.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Well, the best answer is for you to get a copy of Levine's Guide to Knives, 4th edition (not 5th). Check with Bernard Levine in his subforum here. It is a great resource. They are out of print, so it might be difficult to locate a copy.

Some other info can be found in books regarding the history of knife making in Sheffield.

This forum is a great place to start. There are loads of threads discussing the different patterns, their uses and histories too.
