I responded in the General forum about my buying habits when it comes to knives, and I definately lean towards what would be termed "tactical folders". I also figured that I was going to have to cut back on my monthly spending for knives. It was about this time when I really began to take a shine to the slipjoints. I don't really have much in the way of a lot of slippies; Case large Gunstock, Case Razor, and a soon to have Case Cigar Whittler I have mentioned in another post. When I look at things I think I can kill two birds with one stone, I hope, by buying slippies for awhile. This should allow me to cut back on my monthly spending as you can get a good quality slipjoint at a good price. I like things large so I'll probably try to pick up some larger slipjoints. Right now I'm looking at a S&M Wildcat Driller in a whittler pattern. I also like the Railsplitters, English Jack, and Gunstock by Queen or S&M.

So if I get started on this you may see me more often in the traditional forums. Any other larger patterns come to mind? If so please list them so I can look over them.

Btw, not saying that I'm getting rid of my modern folders, just want to add some more traditional stuff, and maybe save a few bucks along the way, while I satisfy the need for sharp steel!!:D:thumbup::D

Ya may notice as you start adding more slippies to you collection, that they offer a lot more than monetary savings...
The simplicity, functionality, and the "take out and fondle factor" is unmatched by any other style of knife IMHO...
There are as you know, so many different configurations, that one could collect for many years and never have every variation.
Besides the knifes, this is IMO the best sub-forum here, with a lot of great people.

Welcome. Slippies can be addictive. Some larger ones I like, Gunboat Canoes, Large Stockman, Large Trapper, Copperhead, Moose. Check them out. If you need some good sources for places to get them, just speak up.

And then there are the old ones. The quality of an old knife surpasses todays general production knife. There are exceptions now though.
My collection is a few of these and a few of those, I liked tactical to own several over the course of my collecting.I still like tactical knives although I only have one left.Nothing wrong with liking both.I started out with two customs actually three, I had an old Al Mar in ivory micarta and finger grooves.Al Mars one of the forrunners of tacticals knives I think. For me it hits when I see a nice old pocketknife..Ultimate, a Scagel folder.I should just say any of his.I would break into a fever alright.

Take a look at the Great Eastern Cutlery one blade #23 "Pioneer".

(Great Eastern makes the same knife under the brand names Tidioute, and Northfield.)

Also some nice large toothpicks from Queen and Case.

You will like the above mentioned.Schatt & Morgan makes a nice large gunstock stockman at 4 1/2 inches.

Thanks guys. I had forgotten about the Gunboat. I like the Cuban from GEC, and the soon to be Whittler. I would also like to get a Clasp pattern, probably from Case and the one in ATS34. I've looked at some of the Case Grandaddy Barlows, and Coke Bottle patterns, but in each the blade was nowhere centered, and I'm as anal as they come about this! I'm thinking I might have to go the S&M route to get those two. Anyone have these two patterns from S&M, if so, are the blades centered? My ultimate acqusition would be a Bose/Case Swingguard, and the new Arkansas Hunter, just afraid that by the time I'm able to spend that type money, they will all be gone. Anyway, thanks agin guys!!:D

Toothpicks 5" closed

I have one from Queen in D2

The Queen toothpick in D2 is definitely a real nice knife.

Case is now making some toothpicks at 5-1/2" closed - IMO the Ducks Unlimited version with Walnut scales is the nicest.

Another one - every once in a while, the Schatt & Morgan File & Wire Tested 5" toothpick in ATS-34 shows up on eBay. It's a beauty and not too many were made. (One of the prizes in my toothpick collection.)
