I'm an impulse buyer. Always have been and always will be.

Lately, I've had a renewed interest in slip joint knives. I had every intention of coming to this forum today to get recommendations for and opinions of various brands of slipjoint knives. Well, I got to looking around on the computer this AM and on impulse bought/ordered the following.

Bear & Sons Barlow

Eye Brand Whittler

I like yellow handles and bought the Bear & Sons Barlow just because it had yellow handles. Pretty much the same thing for the Eye Brand knives. All ordered on impulse mainly because they have yellow handles.

Oh, I've never had any knife from Bear & Sons or Eye Brand but have heard they are good knives, especially the Eye Brands.

Any thoughts from you guys?

Wow, you really got your yellow on today. Congrats at the nice score.
As for brand name yays or nays, I think you could've done a lot worse. I had that same Bear and Sons yeller carbon barlow. It's a great EDC and the blade sharpened up nicely. Took on a nice patina also. I've never had any quality problems with Bear and Son, and their prices are quite reasonable.
Can't speak for Eye Brand personally having never owned one but I recall some nice things being said here about them.

Very nice. I don't impulse buy. Instead, I stare at Bladeforums for 100 hours and then narrow my choice to a top list. Then spend another 20 hours mulling over which I like best. Then I hunt for a week for the best deal. It's a real process.

My head tells me that's the way to do it but my heart just won't let me go down that road. If I see something and want it, I buy it -- within reason of course.

Lots of eye-candy in these forums and in this sub-forum for sure. When I see something I like, I make a note and then check it out later.

My process and yours is very similar ... except you're a little faster at it than I am.:)

Knives are not impulse buys- they come along when you are in NEED of a new knife!:rolleyes:At least that's what I tell my wife. Good score on both brands- Bear and Sons is a very good knife for the money-American made and traditional, two big pluses in my book. Congrats

Impulse buyer never existed until I found Blade Forums and Jackknife’s stories. Then bam I got a new pattern coming. Got my chestnut peanut that way still think it is too small for my hands but a great knife. Yellow looks good.
