I would like to make a knife like a Old Timer Muskrat or Trapper, from a kit. I have seen a couple on NorthCoast and Texas Knifemakers, and I am wanting to know if there is any other sites with this type of knife kits?

This will be my first knife making project.

Thanks for any response

Welcome to Blade Forums !

Well your best bet is just to google " knife kits" slipjoint kit" , etc.

To be honest I do not think there are any others besides what you will find on Texas Knife makers , which by the way are excellent kits for the cash !

I've only built the smaller slipjoint kit ( of the slippie kits ) and while it was sort of fun , it was not an easy task by any means , for me at least , and I've previously built several other folder kits.
So be prepared for some fun and cursing. :D

Oh and please post pics of your finished product.

That's the one I built , only I chose to go with only the larger blade instead of all 3.

The blade was factory sharpened horrid , with the tip being very thick , but after a judiscious thinning and proper sharpening it took a nice razor edge.

Good to hear. I was thinking about buying one to build for my dad. He's always carried an Old Timer Stockman. Of course he's always breaking the tip on the large blade so maybe knifekit's being thicker might be a good thing.
