Borrowing from a thread posted on the knife art board tell us your favorite slipjoint multiblade pattern.
out of a sea of beauties the swell-center
whittler holds a special place in my heart!
c'mon what tickles your fancy?

Tough question for me, but I will go with whittlers (Wharncliff and Swell Center in that order) and Doctor's patterns.

I don't collect them, can not even say they excite me, but I sure love the way a good stockman feels in my pocket. No matter how many fine knives I play with; you can count on my old stockman keeping its place in my pocket.

Well, I like stockmans and trapper patterns alot, I'd pick a large trapper if I had to choose. But one I REALLY like that I can't find, is the sunfish or elephant's toenail pattern. I wish one of the factories made one of those, I've only seen customs. Sigh.

That is a two-bladed old style Remington 'Moose' folder.

Oops. No it's not. That is the two-bladed Double lock-back Moose folder that I have on order from PJ Tomes. This design took the Most Innovative award at the 2000 BladeShow. PJ Said he just took an old design and improved it, like adding the double lockbacks, and 52100 blade steel.

I also like whittlers a lot

I would say that my favorite(readily available) pattern would have to be the stockman. But, I fell in love with a pattern in one of AG Russell's old catalogs and cannot find one to save my life. 2 blades, one coming from each end, one muskrat clip and the other a Warncliffe, rounded bolsters. Nice, slim and looks to be very easy to carry. I tried to get Don Hanson III to make me one, but he is up to his neck in fancy damascus pearl automatic orders and cant find the time. He is supposed to find time to make me a big damascus bladed, pearl handled Texas Toothpick though. When? Who knows?

Gonna agree with Gus on this one but will add a 5 bladed sowbelly to the mix.

Tough to name just one. I think the Slim Serpentine Jack is simple but elegant. Also love the simpleness of the a Senator or Sleeveboard Pen with tip bolsters. But the Orange Blossom is the most exotic to my eye. P.S. To Brian Lavin: Not that familiar with Case, but believe I saw a large Sunfish in a collector tin at Lowe's Home Center the other day.

I’ve always been partial to English Jacks like this 4 1/2" (closed) Remington R1163 from the late 1920’s.

I'm partial to Mini Trappers, Trappers and Peanuts. I also like the Hobos. Since you can take them apart it just gives you another reason to play with a knife and how threatened can sheeple feel by a knife and fork?

Two of my favorites are the wharncliff whittler's and the saddlehorn trapper.

2 blade folding hunter or a Case Bulldog, the bigger the better!! Oh yes, and for pure pleasure and enjoyment to look at, a nice Elephant's Toe or Sunfish!!

Take care!! Michael

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Sunfish is my favorite. Especially the old Winchester's candy stripe pattern handle scale.

My favorites?

This is a really tough question since there are so MANY classic patterns, but I would have to say that the Copperhead, Toothpick and Sowbelly stockman are my all time favorites. There are others, such as the Muskrat, Barlow, Trapper, and Serpentine Stockman that I favor, but I always gravitate toward these three patterns.

Good question and some good answers!

Jeff Jenness

As a follow-up, I wonder what your favorite celluloid pattern is? Mine is faux perl or tortoise shell, followed by christmas tree. Too bad this stuff is so unstable.
