Hey folks want to add a slipjoint to my collection but have no idea what to add. Heard about GEC and CASE but that's about it. What I am looking for might not even exist or hard to find but maybe you guys know.

What I would like:
  • stainless steel blade and/or stainless Damascus (preferably a higher end steel)
  • preferably 3.5 - 4 inch blade (smalls just don't work for me)
  • single blade only

EDIT: this is soo weird this is my 666th post

What is your criteria for a higher end stainless? You usually don't get anything better than 440C in a slipjoint outside of a custom and certainly not with a blade that large.

If a little over a hundred is okay then, check out the Tony Bose (custom knife maker) BackPocket authorized reproduction by Case with a large 154 cm blade:
"Case Burnt Amber Bone BackPocket 154-CM"
Search Case knives for this SKU number: CA9646

If 440C is okay, then look for a 74 from GEC. You'll need to search the secondary market. They don't make many knives in stainless.

If several times that price is okay, then check out the Case/Bose collaboration knives. The knives are cut by wire EDM directly from templates provided by Tony. They use 154-CM (some older ones use ATS-34)

If all of those knives are too pricey, then take a look at the large Moki Fish Owl.

And if that's too pricey, then check out the Case Tribal Lock or a regular Case BackPocket (with TruSharp instead of 154-CM)

And if you want something even cheaper, get an Opinel number 10.

saw a video just post on epicsnugglebunny review about the benchmade new slipjoint and he showed 2 custom slipjoints one from Africa and from J.Stout looked epic so kinda got an itch for a slipjoint and price wouldn't bother me to pay up $300 or so depending on materials of course.

definitely no 440C thinking more about 154CM or higher and forgot to mention sorta like a combo between old fashioned traditional with some new modern materials

With such a large blade, Traditionals tend to be smaller, and high expectations for modern steel, this might be rather difficult to carry off.

I would suggest you take a look at Fontanille-Pataud.fr and look into their Traditional French knives many of which come big. Quality is deeply impressive, you have a lot of choice over handles and steels. Waiting time is really quite short too and their website is in English as well.

If D2 is stainless enough for you, the Queen #3 Mountain man is an outstanding knife.

The Case 154 CM back pocket (a little over $100) and Case/Bose collaboration knives (more expensive) that I previously mentioned fit that description. If you are talking about "modern" cover materials as well, then you may need to look at modern knife makers that make a slipjoint knife ...like the slipjoint from Benchmade. You could get a custom knife from Reese Bose or another knife maker but it will be out of the $300 price range.

Tuna Valley uses higher end stainless, I think CPM154, on some of their models. Prices are usually between $100 and $200.

Trestle Pine is another brand that uses 154CM and CPM154.

Canal Street used 14-4 MoV near their end, some may be available on the secondary markets.

S&M uses ATS-34 in their File & Wire line, and had some big single blades just a few years back, which you may still be able to find.

If lockbacks and/or detents don't scare you, Viper and Lion Steel both have nice steel choices in single blade knives at that size.
