I just got my Douk-douk yesterday. The knife has a good slicing blade and the spring is strong, when open the blade stays put. This one is not going to close accidentally.

What I have in mind is that a slipjoint of the same size, with a strong spring and douple stop but with a more comfortable handle might be interesting. So I am asking for recommendations of slipjoints with these qualitys.

Finn, which DoukDouk did you get? The Large one or the Small one?

The older GEC #23s have a pretty stiff spring, but are bigger than 3-3.5 inch and they have a half stop (which I think you mean when asking for a double stop). I don´t own an early #23, but I´ve read it several times here on the forums, that their springs are really strong.

If it should be smaller - maybe the early #73 GECs are nailbreakers, too. But there I don´t know exactely.

The large one, 90 mm blade. The size is right in my opinion for the jobs I like to do, especially food prep.

Does Case have any single blade slipjoints that fit my needs? What about the back pocket folder, how would you rate the spring in it? I could live with with a two blade version, but prefer a one blade.

What about Gueen cutlery gunstock? Two blades, available in a short time.

the backpocket is generally well liked, however, I wouldn't say that the spring is strong. The GEC #23s are available in all varieties - single blade, liner lock, jackknife, trapper etc.

Aitor castor mediana or Grande.. will need a little sharpening ot bring out the true sparkle.. But good springs nice half stops.. wood handle.. Not a looker just a strong working class folder.

In that size range I can recommend the GEC #23 at the 3.5" end and the #73 at 3". If you are looking at one of these and really want a strong backspring then I recommend that you avoid the ones with lanyard holes. I have a few with holes and they are much easier to open (pull similar in strength to a Victorinox Soldier but with half stops) than the ones that do not have lanyard holes. The ones without are either full barehead or have end caps.
