Slipjoints: half stop or round tang

I have custom slipjoints from great makers, some use half stop's and some use round tangs. My everyday carry is a small toothpick with mastadon ivory handles from Richard Rogers. It has a round tang.

Another of my favorite knives is this wharncliff half whittler from Dan Burke in D2 and real Utica bone. Dan uses half stop's on his knives.

The half stop seems more stylish, but I think I like the round tang better. Or is it the other way around.

.

I like half stops in Doctor's knives or maybe sometimes I don't.

I'll go with the half stops today.

(hey Bailey, Richard and Joel did you get that

According to a friend who is a slip joint maker, half stops are more difficult to make if the spring is flush in all three positions. In my opinion, this is the proper way to do half stops and showcases a maker's talent better than a round tang, so my vote is for half stops.

I agree Chief, there is something special about those flush springs in the half-stop position.
