Slipjoints with bushings

Are there any slipjoints made with bronze (or other material) bushings? I was reading up on the Buck 110 history in LG4, and there is a 110 with a bushing at the blade pivot. My 110 is probably the smoothest operating folder I have.

It got me to thinking, do any traditional mfrs. make a slipjoint with bushings at the pivot like that?

The other thing is: why bronze? Whenever I look at the inventory of various suppliers, I see mostly bronze. Is there some kind of self lubricating quality to it?

I know that Case uses aluminum/bronze bushings in the Case/Bose collaboration knives and they may be using them in some of there regular production models as well.

Bronze has been used for bushings in industry for a very long time because of its "built in" lubricant qualities. Bronze by itself is a relatively soft material. Adding aluminum makes it a bit harder and less likely to be marred or malformed.

At least on one end that I can see.

When I toured the Case factory last fall, they were assembling some three bladed 54 trapper patterns with bushings. They said that it was something that they were beginning to try on some patterns.

I'd also like to know the answer to that question, or at least what models Case is doing that with. I have a Case/Bose collab. that has it, but obviously there're other reasons, too why that is smooth.

Thanks for the info folks - I'll keep an aye out for this little detail.

the russlock and mid-folding hunters have them too.... found that out when i dropped the derned bushing while taking the mid-hunter apart. (doh!) a buddy took apart a russlock and did the same thing.. ;)
