slippery deer handle

I recently made a small skinner for a trapper friend, he enjoys the knife but claims the handle is too slippery. I guess when the guts and stuff is flying (oily beaver?), he has a hard time holding on. I made his handle out of one of the fingers on a deer rack. I'd hate to ruin the look. Any suggestions? Some carving?

Perhaps you could do a little relief carving to add a little texture to the surface.

I would be tempted to dimple the surface in some sort of pattern using a 1/8" ball tool on a dremmel. The tapered nature of the tang will present a problem holding on to it at the best of times so there is no guaranteed fix.
